I was super sick a couple weeks ago. For nasal I did Nasonex, Nettie pot, and humidifier. Also I took Sudafed a few times during the day. At night I took NyQuil once then Benadryl the others. Sadly my nose hasn't gone back to normal. I'm still sleeping with the humidifier and a breathe right strip. For a more natural route I also did a hot mug of apple cider vinegar, honey, lemon and cinnamon water. Tastes terrible but it's awesome for colds. HTH!
Benadryl at night is the only think my doc recommends over the counter medwise. He says everything else even theraflu has too much junk and additives in it
I had a headcold a few months ago. The pharmacist at Target was awesome and gave me a list of common medications you can take during pregnancy and during which trimester. I cross referenced that with what my doctor's office said I could take too. Pharmacist said to stay away from Guafenisin but my OB said any Robitussion cold medicine was ok to take.
When my allergies started to turn into a cold about a month ago my doctor told me to take Sudafed, as long as it was NOT Sudafed PE. I double checked that with my best friend who is a pharmacist and she agreed that regular Sudafed is ok when pregnant. I only had to take it for two days before I was feeling better. I also used a saline rinse similar to a neti pot to help clean out my sinuses.
Otrivin nasal spray up to three days for nasal congestion. DM cough syrup for coughing and actually my dr ok'd codeine as a cough suppressant too if the coughing is really bad
Neti pot all the way!!! Every day once a day and then gargle warm salt water as well. Some tea with honey and lemon (esp before bed) and a cool mist humidifier. Stay super hydrated. That combo has helped me beat colds for years and even last week.
A "cold" is a virus. It will run its course no matter what. The meds and other remedies help with symptom management and just make you feel better while it runs through. If it's not a bad cold I stick with hot showers and blowing it out as best as I can. I'll also use neilmed as opposed to a netipot, it has a lot more force to it and gargle the salt. Plenty of hot tea with lemon.
If I'm miserable or I feel it going down to my chest I'll use robitussin or robitussin DM if I'm actually coughing. I got over a bad one in June doing this.
I've been taking sudafed and Tylenol, mainly at bedtime and first thing in the morning before work. Otherwise, warm showers, hot drinks/soup, and as much rest as possible... once this head cold drops to my chest, I'll take robitussin DM as needed for the cough (as directed by my OB)
Finally caught the start-of-the-year cold from my students. I've been toughing it out with soup, juice, water, and sleep. It's not the easiest but I've avoided all meds so far. I do have a doctor's check up on Monday and plan to ask what they recommend in case I get something worse later on. But even when I'm not pregnant I usually try to just get through it on my liquids/sleep plan.
Allergies started earlier in week and now I have sinus infection. Trying not to take anything unnecessary but started Claritin which didn't do the trick. Started Sudafed per md and feel a lot better. He also gave me z pak due to infection. Seeing if I can beat it out of system before taking antibiotics.
I've been sick for the past two and a half weeks with a nasty one. Got to the point where I couldn't lie down my face/ears/forehead were so sore. Finally went to the doc today and she said there's been a nasty one going around that is both viral and bacterial, and you body has a hard time getting over the viral if it's still fighting the bacterial. Since I've been eating a bunch of sugar lately (sore throats require popsicles, ya know?) That was feeding the bacteria and making the sore throat worse. She prescribed an antibiotic and said that should help with the bacterial infection so I can get over the cold.
Moral of the story: if you're truly miserable and sicker than a dog, get the meds. Sudafed, robotussen, and tylenol are all ok for this point in pregnancy
I swear by Apple cider vinegar. It lessens the severity, helps with sinuses, and I feel it helped me get over my cold faster.
Just 2 teaspoons diluted in water (I also mixed honey in for my throat, and for taste). Up to 3× a day.
I drink ice water everyday out of these huge 32oz cups...just added some ACV and honey and I swear it made me get over this cold faster than my coworkers.... only a few days and some of them had it for weeks, and had it turn into sinus infections/bronchitis/etc.

Plus it's safe to take
