Nanny cancelled :-(

We have had our nanny set for sometime now but she just called (crying and feeling bad) and said she can't take the position (I start work in less than 3 weeks). She has her sister in law with dementia living with her n her husband and it's taking a huge toll on the two of them. I totally understand her position; however, this is horrible news for us as well. We have no other ideas on anyone else who can and I tried care.com but not much turned up. :-( stressed!

    Ugh that sucks, sorry to hear! Have you looked into independent nanny agencies?

    I ended up finding my in care provider through word of mouth and small world it ended up being someones mom I graduated with. Can you at least put the word out?? I was shocked we came up with someone this way, but so happy bc I cried after leaving the daycare my LO was supposed to go to realizing I wanted way more personal care for her than they could provide!

    Maybe even send out an email to close friends and family. They may have suggestions of ppl they know.

    This is how we found our original nanny! It's def upsetting! I'm not comfortable with day cares at all, for the reason you stated, being one of them.

    You may try health and human services with your local government. Often, they can provide you with lists of nonprofit organizations that maintain databases for child care. In my county, there are two organizations and they keep a listing of in-home providers and centers (and maybe nannies, but I cannot recall). Good luck!

    I was a nanny for 4 or 5 years and all of my jobs found me through word of mouth (family, friends and acquaintance...)
