Carrying low - what does it mean??

Hi guys, new poster here. I tried searching the group for information about carrying low but didn't find any posts?
Everybody has been telling me I'm carrying really low & just wondering if it's normal & what it means I guess?
A bit about me; I'm 21, my first pregnancy & EDD : 11/02/2016 .. Which puts me 19weeks and 5 days today. I've attached a picture.
I tried googling but many people are saying its in older women, not common in your first pregnancy or weak ab muscles.. I worked out a lot before getting pregnant so I can't imagine it being that.
More than anything I'm just wondering if anybody else is or has carried low too & if its ok for the little one?
Thanks in advance for any answers :)image

  • I'm 22, FTM and I'm carrying super low. I feel her kick 2-3" below my belly button. My Dr hasn't mentioned it not being okay.

  • There's an old wive's tale that says carrying low means it's a boy. That's probably why people are commenting on it. It's nothing to worry about though.

  • If you have a long torso it might just look like your bump is lower. At 20 weeks your uterus is only up to your belly button, so it seems normal to me that the majority of your bump is below the navel.

I have a short torso and people keep warning me about bruised and dislocated ribs later on. For some reason people think its just open season for commenting on pregnant women's bodies. If your doctor isn't worried you shouldn't be either.
  • I've carried low with all my children. My bumps are all under my belly button. If that makes sense. No cause for your concern. I think it just depends on the woman and pregnancy.
  • I don't think there's any cause for concern and I agree with the PP.  I think you look great BTW!

  • Every body and every pregnancy is different. If you're carrying low, it's just because that's how your body is making room for baby. Nothing to be concerned about or anything. And the old wives tales about boy or girl don't mean anything, either. I carried my son very very high, he never dropped, and it turned out it was because his head was too big for my pelvis. So it just depends on you.
