Advice for blended family please :)

In our family we have two boys from my previous marriage. My fiancé didn't have children with his ex wife. We are 5 weeks pregnant with baby #3 and I'm so thrilled! My question is this, how do I allow my husband to be to get all the first time experiences even though I know the routine? Thanks for your advice beautiful mommas!

Re: Advice for blended family please :)

  • It's just the opposite for me. My DH has a 9yo son from a previous relationship and I'm just dreading hearing him say "oh that happened with...". He knows it's something I'm very touchy about so I'm hoping he can keep it to himself when he's thinking those things. So far, he's very excited and probably because it's been so long I'm hoping he just forgets it all. He was bummed he can't make it to the first appointment. I just have a feeling we're gonna have at least one meltdown related to his past experience.

Like DH said to me, this is a first all over again! So think of it that way. This is a first for YOU guys. Try and look at it that way.

  • Each pregnancy for me has been totally different. My oldest the pregnancy was awesome and labor was hell. My second was the opposite. Plus a lot has changed in 9 years. I know it's a really tough feeling but try not to stress over it. I'm trying to be so sensitive to my df feelings so I sort of know how your dh feels. Trust me when I do say something that I'm not sure about its never to hurt him. :) I hope that helps give you some perspective from the other side of it.
  • I have an almost 8 year old daughter from a previous marriage. So this baby will be my husband's first. He'll be there at my appts (first and big ones, not every routine weigh in and quick check). It's been awhile since I've had a baby so it's like we're experiencing it together for the first time. My daughter is really involved so it's fun for the 3 of us to talk about baby related things.
