Why am I awake? 4am...every morning!

I wake up to pee and can't sleep for about an hour or two. All the sudden right around 6am I crash and could sleep well past my alarm at 6:30am!!! 37 weeks +2 days pregnant. Oh and I'm hungry!

  • Yep, me too today! Very frustrating!

  • I've been sleeping like crap until 4am every day. Then I sleep amazing until the alarm ruins things. Today however my body decided 4 am would be the perfect time to get up. I guess I'm just getting ready for the every 2 hour wake up thing that's about to happen. 37w 1d here- we almost share a due date :)
  • This has been happening to for awhile. When I finally get a good night sleep I realise how amazing I could actually feel without the two hours wake up. Last couple nights I instead can't get to sleep feel so uptight. Not sure why this is happening now. I just want to sleep!
  • Seriously. I've been getting up at 4am for almost a week now and so mad. DH just woke up (8am) and had the audacity to ask why I've been getting up so early. Tempted to throw something at him!! While he's been sleeping soundly, I've been entertaining a sick, grumpy toddler.

  • The witching hour, haha. My grandma says that's when the baby will wake up every night. I also wake up at 4am every morning, but mine is because of a full bladder and I can generally get back to sleep. Granted, good sleep doesn't happen anymore, so I should probably just say I close my eyes and doze off for a few hours at a time. My husband also says I snore now... Oh the joys of being pregnant
  • I also wake up around 4 AM every morning and can't fall back to sleep.  It is so damn frustrating as I just keep thinking that I only have 3 weeks left at an opportunity for a good night's sleep!  My only saving grace is that I am not currently working.  I have no idea how I would do it if I was.  The worst part is I try not to nap during the day, hoping it will help me sleep at night but nope---4 AM every.freaking.night.  I think naps are starting to sound really good.  Now if only my hip will cooperate with my plan...

  • I've been starting to go to work early because my normal wake up time is NOT working. Try to work it into your schedule! Maybe turn on a pre-natal yoga video, eat a good breakfast, etc. I don't know what you do for work but I've been going in early, getting out early because of it which is AWESOME because I was dying in the late afternoon to begin with!
  • We took a class a few weeks ago and the instructor told us to start paying attention to your sleep patterns. She said if you notice you wake up around a certain time every night, it could be the baby rolling around and waking you up. Which will mean when they're out of the womb, it's when they'll want fed. I found it interesting since I wake up every night around midnight.
  • I wake up at midnight to pee just about every night and recently, like you, I am up at 4. Today I made it to 5 but was down for a nap by 8. It is weird that we all have similar sleep patterns!
  • Glad it's not just me. Between 4:00 - 4:15 every morning and my alarm goes off at 4:50 for work.

Of course I can never fall back asleep for that 50 mins or so!

I guess I just have to be grateful that I have been sleeping pretty solid between 10:00pm - 4:00am... for now anyways.
  • I had been doing that for a couple weeks, but the last week it's like I couldn't get enough sleep.  Well, this morning I was up at 3:30 am again!  At least I have some energy though.
  • 3:30 seems to be my time that I'm awake. Most of the time he isn't moving around much, but he sure is wiggly this morning!
  • Hollaaaaaaa. I usually wake to pee at 1 and 4, but going back to sleep the 2nd time is so hard. Little Miss thinks that's the best time to squirm around and play bongos on my cervix.
  • My dog has turned into my alarm clock. I'm seriously considering changing her name to Shadow. I think she's starting to grasp there are big changes coming with me and doesn't leave my side from the second I walk in the door to the time I leave. She's an 80 lb black lab/greyhound mix with 90% of her weight in her tail. She watches me sleep so every time I move she's right there smacking her tail against the furniture or floor totally waking me up. There have been times I'm at my wits end and have locked her in the bedroom with DH while I sleep in the living room.

That's really interesting! I wonder if that will prove true for us since I get that need to get up at 12 and 4 every night/ morning like clockwork.
  • 3-4 AM like clockwork every night.  Sometimes I can go back to sleep and sometimes not.  I do notice the baby moving during that time but it may be because I am shifting around so much trying to get comfy.

  • So weird, I'm up at 4 every night too! I'm a champion sleeper, so this has been foreign to me. I wonder if baby will be up at that time, like pp said!
  • Reading this at 4am. Insomnia is so fun xD no not really.
  • I'm sleeping horrible also! Some nights I'm tossing and turning and awake for hours. Now I'm getting sick because I'm so run down after this week with little sleep. Why can't I just sleep!? These hormones drive me crazy!
