Trouble TTC

introducing myself

I've never done this before so forgive me for not using acronyms. I'm a 34 (almost 35) yr old. I have a 6 and 8 yr old conceived naturally with no problems. I'm now ttc our third child with no luck. I've been off BC since december 2014 and only had 2 tiny periods since then. I've recently been to the doc and put on progesterone to induce a period and then clomid to help ovulation. I have absolutely no idea about any of this. I'm here to try and get an idea if there are a lot of women out there with this same issue. Thank you!

Hi.. I'm glad that you found the board.     Please take a quick moment to read our Read First post, found here.   It will not only teach you most of our acronyms but also lets newbies know the etiquette of the board (for example, putting 'child mentioned' in your subject title)

Additionally, please be sure that you don't post any identifying information about yourself (your name, location etc).   The members of this board are great people, but this is still the internet so anybody in the world can see whats on here.

Okay, about your situation.    My guess is that you went to an OBGYN, which is usually not the best choice for fertility problems.   They have the ability to prescribe drugs and often prescribe Clomid without even testing you to get a diagnosis or monitoring the effects of the drug.   You need to find out why you are anovulatory -- do you have PCOS?  A thyroid issue? A massive cyst? etc    Don't accept treatment without a genuine attempt to find the source of the problem.

Many women get lucky with the OBGYN and the unmonitored Clomid works,  but for the unlucky ones the results can be disastrous (high order multiples, thinned uterine lining, hostile cervical mucous, permanently reduced fertility, etc).   If any of that happens, the OBGYN will just tell you sorry and send you to a specialist to try to repair the damage that they have done.

If you can, I would go straight to a reproductive endocrinologist (RE for short).  Those are the doctors who specialize in getting you pregnant.  They will test you to get your diagnosis and monitor your treatment to keep your reproductive parts healthy.
