Too much amniotic fluid?

I had my doctors appt yesterday at 22 weeks. My uterus is measuring 30-32 weeks. He said either am carrying twins or I have too much amniotic fluid. More likely I have too much amniotic fluid. The research I've done of too much amniotic fluid scares me so much. Anyone had too much amniotic fluid? What was the outcome?

Re: Too much amniotic fluid?

  • Did you opt out of an anatomy scan? That will tell you either way, since they are able to measure the fluid levels during the scan.

  • I had it done at 18 weeks with mfm and everything was measuring perfect.
  • I had elevated levels for 6-8 weeks w/my last pregnancy. It wasn't severely high from what I could tell though I had a intense MFM and anytime something was off it was like the sky was falling. What next step did your OB recommend? Given potential issues, I highly suggest scheduling appt in the next few weeks w/your MFM.
  • I had too much fluid with my last pregnancy, but the only thing they told me was possible late term gestational diabetes. My son came out fine and when my water broke it was spectacular. Obviously talk to your OB, but it may be a minor issue.

  • I have this. I was in the 97th percentile at 21 weeks. The doctor told me not to worry because it can decrease on its own, but then when I googled stuff it totally freaked me out. I'm going back on Tuesday to check up on it. I'm nervous
  • With my first pregnancy I had too much amniotic fluid. My 20 week scan was fine but further along ds started measuring big and too much fluid. I was already seeing a high risk Dr so he just watched it all closely and everything was fine except ds was born at 36 1/2 weeks, but completely healthy! :) he was actually born the day I had an appointment to schedule a csection (Dr was expecting him to be too big for me to deliver, but I had him completely natural lol). And now he's a very active and healthy 3 year old lol. I'm seeing the same Dr for this pregnancy now and he said that having too much fluid could have caused the preterm labor just because my uterus thought I was further along than I maybe actually was (due to the enlarged size from too much fluid). But he even seemed like that was just a possibility and not 100% the reason.
Don't read into everything online, it will just scare you. Just trust what the Dr tells you and go from that. No reason to stress you or the little one. I know it's easier said than done lol
  • One of my best friends had this with all 3 of her pregnancies and overall there was no major issue long term with any of them. I will say it seemed that 2 of them needed some breathing assistance after delivery but she also had c sections so it probably had more to do with that. I'm sure your sweet baby is just enjoying the extra swim space :)
  • I have an ultrasound on Tuesday to see what's going on. I am so nervous! But very glad to read positive stories on this. It truly helps me to sleep.
