Be prepared for at least half of it not actually being eaten, but going into hair, clothes, eyebrows... Just make sure you've got a bath ready for afterwards! (And I love these pocket bibs by Tommee Tippee. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007C7WI7M/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_cvR-vbV3M9PD2 - hope the link works.) Good luck!
We just started our guy on some rice cereal this week - what I've done is pump right beforehand that way he has some fresh milk to mix the cereal with then I can freeze the rest to add to my stash! I'm using about 1 oz. to mix with about 1 tbsp or so of the cereal and plan on slowly increasing the cereal to thicken it up. Afterwards I then nurse so he fills up but so far he's having fun!! The only thing I've noticed is that he's had a bit more gas and spat up a couple of times so beware of that good luck and have fun with it!!
@chelsco13 I gave my son rice cereal and he didn't like it either. He's doing much better with puréed veggies and fruits. He loves sweet potatoes and green beans... If your dr says it's ok try that with her instead. Or maybe the oatmeal cereal? I bought some of that but I am waiting a few days before trying it
It's really a personal preference when to start (between 4 and 6 months). Start early and risk them not being ready, or start later and risk refusal because they're more aware and more likely to refuse. But the first time typically means repeated attempts followed by repeated refusals. So you could still try rice cereal again, or you could try something else instead, as PP suggested. I found that those first few times, when it was really thinned out with breastmilk, my daughter had a very difficult time swallowing it. But once I used formula and it kept a thicker consistency (more like the purées) she did lot better with not spitting it out. Just keep it up and don't be discouraged! Good luck (again)!
I haven't tried rice cereal, but was thinking of getting the oatmeal cereal. He seems to like most of the solids we've given him, with the exception of bananas. We started him at 4 months, after his doctor gave the go ahead. My sister in law waited til 5.5 months she said. Whatever works best for your LO!
