Eating too much??

Perhaps, I am over thinking this. So, my son is 16 weeks old today and exclusively breastfed. According to The Bump weekly info about baby when I signed in, he should be eating ever 3-5 hours. I was shocked. I have never timed feedings and feed on demand. Today, I started keeping track of how often I feed him. So far, I have fed him at 11:28, 12:44, and 1:30. He is still on the boob now 16 minutes later. He was in the 88th percentile for weight at his last doctor's visit. Is anyone else dealing with this? It seems so strange to me! How can some babies his age be going as long as 5 hours between feedings and he insists on eating EVERY HOUR? He also refuses to take a bottle, so it is a ton of work!

Re: Eating too much??

  • I'm in the same boat. My DS eats probably every two hours, sometimes sooner. He is a quick eater (or maybe he is just snacking, I don't know) and is only ever on the boob for 5-10 minutes.

  • We are at every 2 hours 8-30 mins feedings and sometimes we stretch to 3 hours, but not very often
  • If he's not spitting up, he's not over eating
  • DS is usually every two hours during the day, and that's breastmilk in the bottle, so it's not like he uses it as a pacifier in the same way as the boob.  As long as your kiddo is within the daily range that your doc recommends, I wouldn't worry about it.  Hopefully, he'll start spacing out a bit more soon.
  • Our schedule looks very similar! At night sometimes he will do a 5 hour stretch then every 3 hours! DS is in the 98% for height and 60 for weight!
  • You girls are amazing! I am so glad I am not alone!!!! Thank you for your responses!
