Moby or Ergo?

I have the ergo, but I find it confusing (following instructions hasn't always been my forte). Looking at the moby now. Anyone have a preference for the two?

Re: Moby or Ergo?

  • I can't get the hang of my ergo either :( so disappointing; I'm hoping when LO gets bigger it may be a little easier!

  • I love my Moby wrap. It was a little confusing at first but now I can put it on with ease.
  • I have both. Ergo is more user friendly because you have to wrap moby and get the tightness right but it isn't that difficult with practice and YouTube. I prefer my ergo but as I've said before, the ring sling is by far the easiest babywearing piece out there.

My ergo has the infant insert. I just put her in there and set her in the bassinet while I Velcro the bottom piece of the carrier around my upper hips. Then I put her with the insert between me and the outer piece and bring it up and put my arms in the straps and then clip the back clip between the shoulder straps together. The big thing is making sure LO is high enough (by where you first Velcro the bottom piece) that you can kiss their head. Her head usually rests on my chest.

  • I've used my Boba a lot for shopping trips and I think it's pretty similar to the Moby. It isn't difficult to put on after a few practice trys but the problem is that there is so much fabric that it's awkward to put on in public places. I'm always worried about the fabric touching the floor.

I also have the Ergo with infant insert but haven't used it yet. Most of my friends who have used both prefer the Ergo.
  • I love the ergo! I think it is way easier to use than the Moby. (I have both.) I borrowed my friends ring sling to try out, and i liked the ease of that.... So I've been on a hunt for a nice one! @emmacake08 any suggestions for a nice ring sling that isn't too too pricey?
  • I have the moby. And I have got it go fit once. It slides up andit just feels so loose. I have a bigger baby so idk if size and weight has anything to do with it. I have another type of carrier you just set the baby in it. And that is so much easier. I just feel bad for her legs they just dangle down.
  • @leighawilson91 I impulse bought mine at BRU so that my mom could babywear one of the twins without having to do the moby. I bought this one and really like it. I didn't do much comparison shopping so there may be a better deal out there!

  • I have the boba and ergo and I prefer the ergo. I have a hard time getting the boba tight enough that I feel confident going totally hands free. I end up holding LO in the wrap with one arm, which defeats the purpose!
  • I loved my Moby with my first, but bought a K'tan this time around. It's way easier to put on, but not adjustable. When they get a little bigger, I loved my Boba, which is a lot like the Ergo.

  • I have the Moby and Ergo. Ergo has gotten a lot more use! My hubby uses it too. I have only used the Moby a handful of times and mostly because the baby was too small for the Ergo.

I'm surprised that you think the Boba is like an Ergo. Boba seems like a Moby to me, where the Ergo is much more like a Bjorn!
  • I have both. If you're confused by the Ergo you will be completely baffled and annoyed by a Moby. I still never feel comfortable wearing LO in the Moby because I always feel I'm doing it wrong, and she is my second baby I've used it with. Ergo is much more self explanatory.
  • I've used both and the ergo is by far and away the easier option. It seems like second nature to me because this is my 3rd kid I've used the ergo with - my baby is pretty big for 7 weeks, but I don't use the infant insert anymore, and I get the entire ergo on me before putting my baby in, and then I just slip him in the top and tighten the arm straps. I do sometimes use the detachable pillow from the bottom of the infant insert so he can get his legs out now, otherwise I just frog fold his legs under him so they aren't sticking out of the ergo at all, but he's getting a bit too big for that move now. (he's probably 13lbs now)
  • oh and instead of reading instructions, just watch videos on youtube, I find that much easier to follow.
  • I have an ergo, ktan, moby, and a ring sling. I find that the ring sling is the easiest and feels the safest with my LO. I haven't mastered the wrapping art of the Moby yet though. I have always been told with the Moby to wrap high and tight, making sure that baby is high enough to kiss their heads (same with the ring sling). But, with the ring sling, it's much simpler get baby in and out and once you have the tightness right you don't have to mess with it so it will be right every time.

    Babywearing FTW!

Boba's original carrier is very similar to the Ergo, but they also now make a wrap carrier that is like a Moby.
