Moms with hypo

I just recently got diagnosed with hypothyroidsim and they had put me on 50mcg but that makes me all jittery and then when I stop it it makes me feel real low and like no energy idk I don't want to keep on bothering my doctor about it but I'm not sure if it's the hypothyroid that is making me feel so down or just pregnancy
I don't get seen until the 22 so idk how to go about it

Re: Moms with hypo

  • My stepfather has hypothyroidism and a friend has hyperthyroidism the meds take a while to dial in. It may be an adjustment period for your meds on the dose may be off, call in to your doctor they will probably want to take a blood test to check your levels.

  • Find an endocrinologist. They monitor much closer than an OB or regular doctor. Don't stop taking the meds at all. Baby takes your thyroid hormones before they can produce their own.
  • I had hypothyroidism my second pregnancy. I was on a much lower dose. Please keep in mind that the doctors work for YOU. You're paying them, so if you want to call and ask about it everyday until you get some answers then do it. If they still won't give you what you're looking for, I suggest finding a doctor who will listen.
  • Synthroid or the generic levithyroxin is the sybthetic version of a hormone your bofy makes it has to build up in your system. It is not a medication that you take and 30 min later may have side effects from. That being said it is important you actually take it as prescribed your doctor will likely check your TSH in a few weeks to see what you levels are at. In order for the test to be accurate you need to take it as prescribed.

I have had a hypothyroid since I was 8 years, and I have no function of it now. When hypo it is very common to feel fatigued, or have very low energy. You can sometimes feel jittery when hyper, but you won't become hyper with just a couple doses.

  • I have Hashimoto's thyroditis, that is currently on the hypothyroidism scale. It sounds like you need to have your medication adjusted. My last pregnancy I didn't have to have my dose altered. This pregnancy, my dose was increased from 100MCG to 125MCG. I was hitting a really fatigued, blah phase before they increased my dose. My endocrinologist requested that I take brand only Synthroid during pregnancy and I've had appointments with him every 6 weeks. The last appointment they increased my dose and I have a follow up in 3 months. Your OB can check your thyroid levels and adjust your medication as well.

I was initially put on 25mg of levothyroxine, which helped level things out a little bit, but not to where they wanted them.  I was then bumped to 50mg.  Aside from some nausea because I have to take it on an empty stomach and then wait a while before eating, I haven't experienced any side effects.  Anything is technically possible, I suppose, but I would guess that the root cause of the issue(s) you're talking about is not your thyroid or the meds.
