Snack

What kind of healthy snacks do you like to have?  I tend to get hungry, especially later in the evening, and if I do have a snack like to make it healthy.

Everything looks good on me so far.  Going in for U/S in Oct just to be absolutely sure everything is good.
    SA for DH pending.
  • In the evening I'll sometimes have a tablespoon or so of peanut butter. It satisfies my craving for something sweetish, but doesn't have much sugar (as long as you buy the full fat kind).

During the day I like dry roasted almonds, Babybell cheese, Greek yogurt, or a banana.

  • I love to have fruit. Grapes, strawberries, kiwi, pineapple, banana, etc. Yummy, yummy!

Because I used to babysit and always think of this song when talking about fruit...

MH eats Peanut butter by the spoonful - but a lot of it.  My SD and I make fun, he can go through a large jar in a week.  I'll buy it and go to make a sandwich a few days later and it's almost gone.

Fudgesicles if I need dessert. Watermelon, cheese, and especially almonds. They fill me up quickly, especially if I drink water when I eat them. I also recently discovered garlic roasted almonds...soooooo good.

ETA- carrots and hummus is my go to snack at work. I can eat just a couple or a bunch.

Typically during the day I like to snack on nuts, trail mix, and granola bars. Occassionally, I'll have a brownie or cupcake but that's just because they're at the office. ;)

  • I'm so hungry today, maybe some of your suggestions will be in the cafe-ish vending machine downstairs.  This post is exactly what I need, I was going to get something really bad.

    When I'm good:
    100 cal popcorn bag
    carrots and hummus
    50 cal string cheese
a can of green beans with garlic salt (yep all me and all in one sitting)
  • I make Kale Chips when I get snacky. I LOVE salt and vinegar, as well as BBQ flavored.

  • For something crunchy/salty, air-popped popcorn.

For dessert type snacks, I buy the mini versions of ice cream bars/cones like Lil Drumsticks or those Blue Bunny mini cones, or mini Snickers ice cream bars. They satisfy my ice cream craving but are only around 100-140 calories.

I've been taking my vitamin at night and I like to eat something with it, so I will make one slice of toast with some peanut butter.

Apples with peanut butter. Peanuts. Granola bars. 100 cal popcorn bags. Or if I feel like I need a treat at work, I will eat a handful goldfish.

  • I'm usually satisfied after dinner so don't need a snack per say, but I will have a glass of chocolate milk almost every night.  Satisfies my chocolate cravings.
  • I love Kind Bars (especially the new sea salt caramel flavor), cottage cheese, fresh raw tomatoes from my garden with some salt and pepper, or if I really need some chocolate I will have a section of a chuauo dark chocolate triple nut bar.
  • @housewifehobbyist I'll have to try that! I wonder if MH will like it....he LOVES peanut butter but HATES yogurt....I would think the peanut butter taste would over power the yogurt taste though...?

  • For those of you who love peanut butter, try stirring it into porridge - delicious :)
  • @benicode It's very peanutbutter, but also a little tangy.  I would just use a sweeter yogurt (like Yoplait) and play with the ratios to get it right for him.

Sometimes I add mini chocolate or caramel chips too, but obviously less healthy that way!

  • I'm jealous of all the almond snacks... I'm allergic :-/ Thank goodness it's not all the nuts, just the healthiest one

My go to is the welches individual bags of fruit snacks- 80 calories each and a little sweet

I pretty much live on apples with peanut butter. I love my vegan vanilla protein powder too and will make shakes with cocoa powder and coconut milk if I am craving chocolate. I also make a chocolate pudding - 1 avocado, 1tbs cocoa powder, coconut milk and honey to sweeten. Can add peanut butter or a banana for flavor. Blend it all until smooth. Delicious and rich but without any guilt!

  • @benicode You are missing out with the almond butter. It's sooooo good!

For me it's mainly trail mix and seaweed chips with hummus.
  • frozen banana pieces with peanut butter, greek yogurt and honey, larabars all the time ( when I'm prepared and being healthy!!)
When not prepared I'll snack on whatever we have.. usually sweet things, lol!

  • I love hummus and veggies; fills you up and pretty good for you. You can get convenient little individual sized portions of hummus at the grocery store or Costco or wherever really!

I try not to go crazy with too much fruit in a day; although it's healthier than junk food, it still has lots of natural sugars and calories.
  • Apple with peanut butter, air-popped popcorn, Fiber One bars, bananas, oranges, string cheese with a few pieces of turkey wrapped around it, and if I'm really hungry I'll have a bowl of cereal!
