Trying to Get Pregnant

Third Defective Pregnancy Test

Hello ladies!

I'm currently 17 dpo and this morning I decided it was a good time to test. I woke up at 6 am and took a test... it was defective! The clock on the digital screen never cleared.. in fact it is still there. I went back to bed and woke up at 9:30 and decided to use a different brand and what would you know... defective! The control window never showed up! I was so mad. So this evening I made one of those runs to the dollar store to pick up another test... you wouldn't believe it... NOTHING SHOWED UP!! Defective.

I'm trying my best to be patient to test, but man.. three defective tests in one day?!?! I guess the Lord doesn't want me to know yet. I've had mild cramps for about a week and a half. I usually never get cramps before AF. I'm a bit scared because I had two miscarriages this year. They were both very early, but it was still hard on me and my DH.

Anyone had a defective pregnancy test before? Or three? :)

  • Loading the player...
  • ^yup. And no, I never had a defective one. Just bfns.
  • Wish that were true... the one I picked up at the dollar store this evening was the pink first response... I can't help but laugh a little bit. But it is super frustrating...
  • I haven't had a defective hpt, but I had three defective OPKs last cycle. So annoying!

  • I would take each test back and ask for a refund. Good luck :)

I can just imagine someone with peed-on tests at the customer service counter like, these didn't work! I would email or call customer service first for the brand, but you do you. Tell us what happens if you return in store! I would love to know what they say.
    Bahahahaha! Gross!

  • I used to work in the lingerie dept at Nordstrom. That's all I'll say.
No way!!! My very good friend was the national fit manager until about a year or two ago! She's worked in the lingerie dept since we were in high school.  She manages a Rack now, I'm going to her wedding this weekend.  So random.

  • She was in departments in both Indianapolis and Chicago, and then her job as the national fit manager was based out of the Seattle office.  Nordstrom does have a great return policy! (for the customers anyways!) Kathy Griffin does a bit in her routine about how her mom will return anything to Nordstrom

  • Yes! They do!
I always wanted to go to Seattle just to go to the original flagship store (I realize this no longer is possible and that there is more to do in Seattle than just this lol)

    Maybe try using a cup?
This. If I remember correctly, the digital ones I have used said something about the stream of urine not being too long or strong or it would impact the test. It might just be easier to do the dip method instead.

ETA: I would definitely take a look at the instructions again too. As I remember it, the digital test insert actually explains what happened if the timer never goes away and how to avoid that.
  • @leeperz this happened to me with a digital FRER too this morning and this isn't the first time. In the past when I was preventing pregnancy I had a few scares and I had the same experience with 2 digital FRER's. I will NEVER buy them again.

A long time ago I worked at the customer service desk at a grocery store.  I had some people return some crazy stuff but never a used HPT.  I do believe I would have lost it if someone brought back a piss ridden stick and asked me to pay them for it.

This can NOT be all you say! I must know the details! What was the worst thing you ever got back? Come on, spill!!

Yes I got underwear (not bras - panties) returned.  They looked clean, but smelled horrid.  No, we did NOT restock them.  I did the entire return with a smile, but was quivering with revulsion on the inside. lol

  • I worked at Victoria's Secret in high school and had to deal with the same thing..... I didn't even want to touch stuff people returned.

  • benicode - I'm picturing those hand-held vibrating massagers for your back/neck.  Not thinking actual dildo at CVS.

That reminds me of the Sex and the City episode where Samantha returns that neck massager she uses as a vibrator to Sharper Image
Hahaha! I was thinking the same thing!

  • Sorry. I was just thinking of general returns when I made that comment. I did not think about it first. That is gross. Thanks for pointing that out to me.
