Going back to work

i am going back to work and for a new mom I have no idea how to even start figuring out how I'm gonna work and feed my baby. Any one have an advice? I will be away from her for at least 6 hours(working on "working" the rest 2-3 from home) how do u ladies manage pumping and feeding? Do I need to start scheduling the feeding time and how many ounces... Thanks in advance. Ps she is 1month and few days when I go back she will be close to 2 months

Re: Going back to work

  • Following. I will be going back at 6 weeks (she'll be 3 weeks tomorrow) and I'm already overwhelmed w BF.. Really stressed w work n BF! I typically don't even get a lunch break (I'm "self-employed" and do contract work) but I've managed to get 1, 30min pumping session in my schedules for 11am (will leave home around 7-730 and home by 3-330). I've had a low supply too so I'm worried about having enough stored for the nanny. :-/

  • I'm away from my baby from 7am to 6pm. I feed her at 6:30am then pump at 9:30am, 12:30pm, and 3:30pm. Then I feed her again when I get home and thru the night. I am pumping a little more than she is eating right now which I'm happy about. She is eating roughly 2-4 ounces every 2-3 hours but it varies by day. I thought it would be difficult to make the time as my job is team oriented and can get busy but so far everyone has been really supportive and understanding. And if that changes, my philosophy is feeding my baby is more important than anything at this job (my bosses would agree, it would be some of my coworkers that might be annoyed about it).
  • I don't go back until November but your daughter is adorable!!

  • I will be away from her from 9-6PM but hopefully my bosses will give me the last few hours to work from home. (since I really don't need to be in the office for the last 3 hours because most work is from my computer anyway and phones dont ring by then for me) Having that pumping schedule sounds like a great plan. I will definitely have to "schedule" the times daily. I know I don't have the supply for when I am at work and I heard that supplementing for Enfamil Newborn is totally fine, just nurse as soon as you get home and continue pumping for the supply for the following days. Oh and for those who have low supply try the Mother's Milk Tea. I drink it daily and sometimes up to 3 cups and I definitely saw the difference. =)
