Anyone else having a Scheduled C-Section?

Any moms out there having a scheduled C-section?

Im a FTM with a breech baby. I've been trying everything to get her to flip but she clearly is very happy being breech so I am preparing myself for a c-section.

Im actually pretty okay with it (i was pretty upset at first). Im just so excited to meet her and now knowing the exact date makes it even more exciting?

Does anyone have any trips or tricks to get through recovery? I've never had any surgery before and have no clue what to expect!

Good Luck!!!! you must be so excited! I can't wait to hear about your experience!
  • I'm having one next Monday, if I don't go into labor before that. Water broke last week so hanging in there trying to stay pregnant... I keep hearing not to worry about it, it's so routine and either way these babies come out there is a recovery time. Just think about how happy you'll be once the baby is in your arms!
  • I'm having my 3rd on 10/5. With the 2nd, recovery was so much easier because I wasn't exhausted from having gone through 42 hours of labor first! I don't know any different, but recovery wasn't too bad. Keep up with your pain meds and after about a week, I felt pretty good. The hardest thing is getting up and down from a laying down position. You will be fine and it's so worth it!

  • I'm scheduled for mine on 10/16 but have a feeling it will be sooner. It's easier I think when its planned. Just remember it's an epidural and yes that needle goes in your back, I sobbed the first time bc I was so upset I was getting a c section and the circumstances of that pregnancy. This one I'm ok with. We get guaranteed skin to skin contact still after unless something is wrong with lo. You should be ok. Recovery just takes a little longer and you are in the hospital longer.
  • I'm scheduled to deliver my twins, via c section on 10/15. I'm really hoping to make it that long!

  • My baby is stubbornly transverse and I'll hopefully find out at my appt on Weds what the plan is but may have to schedule a c-section. Due to my heart-shaped uterus, he may not be able to turn. I was upset at first too but now would rather just have it scheduled then have an emergency one later on.
  • I'm scheduled for 10/23, only 1 day before my due date. I'm going to talk to my doctor about moving it up because I'm measuring a week ahead. This will be my 3rd and it's not that bad. Take your pain meds, rest, and eat plenty of fiber to keep your digestion on track.
  • I think I'm mostly just afraid of how much pain i'll be in afterwords...im a complete chicken when it comes to pain. Im sure the pain meds will make me feel good though. my c-section is scheduled for 10/6. Im so excited! i really want to just skip the next few weeks!
  • @KittenMittens8 We are sailing in the same boat :-). My baby is a complete breach. My DD is 9/28 and I am planning to schedule a c section on 9/27, just a day before dd. I am still feeling bad that I wouldn't be able v give birth naturally, but cs is the safest way to keep myself and my little one safe and hence the decision. I don't want to go for ecv coz there s no guarantee that it will succeed.

All the best for ur cs and wish me luck too.
  • I have a c section scheduled on 10/2. I'm a FTM but I had a fibroid removed last year so the doc recommended I have a C. Recovery for the fibroid was pretty brutal so I'm hoping this time around it's easier. I'm a little nervous about being awake while being cut open. Seems unreal but I'm just going to breathe and wait for the first sounds of my little man entering this world! I think DH will skin to skin while I'm being sewn up. I told him he has to grow his chest hair out so his stubble isn't scratchy!
  • I am having my third Csection on 9/28. My first failed to descend and the second and this third I chose to continue with having Csections. I will also be having my tubes removed during surgery. Just remember take it slow. You'll be in pain but the excitement of having that baby out and here will make it all go away and worth it :) Basically if it's scheduled, you'll go in, they will prep you and take you into the OR room. Give you your epidural to numb you and then bring in the person who wants to come in with you. Then they will put up the screen so you can't see and start! The whole process of getting the baby out is quick! Maybe 15 min. It's when then are cleaning you out and re-putting you back together that takes he longest. But I felt like it was super quick, then they will wheel you into your room and after the baby check out you get skin to skin :)
  • Have my second c section scheduled for 10/20. I do not do well with pain either so i was surprised how well things went pain wise after my first one. While in the hospital stay up on the meds as you will be there a few days anyway. When home just take it easy as much as possible but honestly i felt pretty good by day 4 when i left for home. Recovery was pretty good and that also surprised me. Im actually more scared this time around and emotional as i dont want to be without my son for 3 nights (he is almost 2) but i know it will be fine overall.
  • I have my c-section scheduled for 10/8. We're having twins and both are breech. At first, only one was so I got acupuncture to flip and now they both are! I have to laugh since I clearly have no say in these babies' plans. :) As long as everyone is healthy and as stress free as possible, I'm cool with whatever is suggested.
  • So I had mine today!! Was the most surreal experience of my life. I'll say that the lidocaine they give you before the spinal goes in hurt more than i imagined, but after that part it was so fast and easy. She was seriously finished like 30 seconds later.

I've already started stool softeners and have taken every single pain med they offer. Take it all!

An unexpected side effect: I am soooo hot and sweaty. Put your hair up ASAP if it's down--my head is a sweaty mess.

If anyone has specific questions just let me know. This was absolutely amazing and it feels great to have my girls here and healthy!
  • I'm scheduled for my 2nd c section on 9/24. With my first, it was an unexpected outcome to have emergency c section. The 24hr to 48hr are still a blur. I remember only seeing DH tending to DD. I was completely out for that one, but now I'll be awake. And that makes me nervous.
    Recovery is a slow process.

  • I'm due 10/10 so they are going to call me back with a firm date soon. My first was an emergency after 25 hours of labor, this second baby is measuring ahead of schedule. I feel calmer this time around, knowing this is scheduled, and my daughter will have someone there for her. Family is a good 6 hour drive away atleast. I had so much anxiety that I would spontaneously go into labor. My daughter just turned 2, and we can't wait to meet this little guy.
  • Im having my third and final c-section on 10/12 along with my tubes tied:) im so excited to be done with pregnancy and the back to back to back pregnancies to finally get 3 babes under 3!! Both cesareans were surprisingly easy for me and im praying this one is no different.

I recommend the bellefit to anyone having a cesarean delivery :x

    Recovery is a slow process.

I had a bit of a panic attack on the OR table right at the beginning of first! I started telling DH to make them stop, there was no way I could go through with it awake, tell them to knock me out. He laughed and said, "Sorry, can't do that!" I begged, "Yes, you can. Just tell Jake [my OB] to wait for one damn minute. I can't breathe..." Right about that time, I heard my son cry for the first time and everything else disappeared. It is amazing that you are awake while they perform surgery and you don't feel a thing! Now that I know what to expect, I'm going to ask for the drape to be lowered so I can see baby sooner. And I'm excited that my hospital has updated their policies and will let get skin to skin while they do my tubal and close me up.

You will be fine, momma! There will be doctors all around you to make sure you and baby are ok. Make sure DH takes camera or phone for pictures! My anesthesiologist even offered to take a family photo for us!
  • Scheduled for my 4th c on 10-15. I still after having had 3 am a bit nervous. But your only in the hospital 1 day more than usual and believe me you and baby will get plenty of care. Take your meds even if you feel good. It creeps up on you the first few days after the having baby high is over. I nurse so that has always been an issue for me. I usually suffer through it after I get home. You will do fine!!! Good luck.
