Diapers to tight WTF pampers warning RANT

so lets start by saying my DD is 2 weeks old and starting at day 8 she has been inconsolable I think it's a mixture of gas and acid reflux...been feeding every 2 hours per pedi orders she's just not comfortable! Skip to we had an incident the first week where I noticed her foot was purple I undid her diaper and voila back to pink...scary..fast forward to today and same thing purple undue diaper back to pink she is 7 pounds 3 ounces 19 inches long have been using a mixture of pampers and honest company both newborn sizes I noticed the pampers are not fitting her properly which is obvious now! I am so pissed how can a 7 pound baby not fit into a newborn size when it says it's up to 10 pounds ??? And could this be making her so uncomfortable sorry for the rant this momma has had no sleep and I feel so badly for my daughter oyy

Re: Diapers to tight WTF pampers warning RANT

  • Both my babies never fit in newborn pampers, we started right at 1. They were both 8.12. I tried newborns to start because I had a pack of them and it was very obvious they were too small.

I guess they say up to 10lbs because all baby builds are different. I never follow size guidelines, just go by fit and feel.

Glad you figured it out and she's comfortable now!

My son was born 7 lb 10 oz and wore pampers newborn for 4.5 weeks until he was 8 lb 13 oz. No issues for us at all. Could it be just that you had them strapped on too tight?

Edit: and he was born 20 in. And was 21.25 in when we stopped using them.
  • It could have been the first time but now we know we are very diligent with making sure it's not, def could be possible though... she is very petite and has skinny chicken legs lol
  • My LO was 8.6 at birth and never fit into newborn.
  • @sja0822 my ds has scrawny little legs too lol.
  • I think PP is right..baby build are all different. My LO was 6lbs5oz 18in. long and we left the hospital at 5lbs6oz!! Tiny little thing! Anyways, fast forward, at our 2 week appointment miss piggy was 7lbs1oz! We got to our 1 month tomorrow and im betting she is at least 8lbs and pampers newborn diapers still fit her great. I think we will be able to get through this last bulk box we got and then possibly be moving up but we shall see!

DD was born at 6 pounds. We used newborn for a few weeks. She likes keeping her legs pulled close to her body, so I switched to size 1 to keep her comfortable.
  • I wonderwhy they don't fit.
DD2 was born 8#1, was 8#2 at 11 days, is probably at least 9 now and still wears newborn.
    DS1: 8/3/10, DD1: 8/17/13, DD2: 8/13/15

  • The weight on the diapers is a guideline, not definite. I'm not sure how much baby weighs, but she has definitely outgrown NB and is into size 1. I have found it is best to move them to the next size when they are at the bottom of the weight range to avoid leaks. So size 1 is 8-14 pounds, start around 8 lbs.
  • My boys were born at 7.1 and 8.14 and we didn't use newborns except for the first week. If that. Little mama here was 6.9 and we just stopped using newborns at one month exactly and she hasn't hit 10 lbs yet. But she is close.
  • DD was 8.6 at birth and is almost 3 weeks old and we just switched to size 1 yesterday. Mainly because we ran out of newborn. NB still fit ok, but were beginning to get tight. I feel like she is swimming in the size 1.
  • DD was 8.8 at birth and now 10lbs exactly. Never used newborn anything. Like others have said, it's a guide and not a definite. Just like us adults, LO's are shaped differently.
  • Every baby is so different. DS was able to still fit pampers newborns at 10 pounds and 22 inches long. At 8 pounds we still had to fold them down for them to fit him.
  • My LO was born at 8.1 pounds and by 3 weeks I when he was almost 9 pounds I bumped him up to size 1. He could squeeze into newborn but was leaking around the thighs. With size 1, no leaking
  • Just use the next size up diaper, newborn diapers only for my LO for a week, after that I switched to size 1.
  • Yup, different types of diapers fit babies differently.  The old saying is that Huggies are for girls and Pampers are for boys.  This was true for us.  Huggies didn't fit DS1 at all, so we tried Pampers.  They were great!  We loved them so much that we never tried anything else and are using them again for DS2. Also, yes, the diaper may just be too tight or you are using the wrong size.  The size range on the package is just a guideline.
