Viles having a lower count?

Hi All!

Has anyone had the issue where the viles were marked with a certain number and when it came time for IUI or otherwise, they were NOT anything close to what the viles said?
We just did my first IUI and my 27million vile, only had 1 (yes one.) sperm in it.....
Hoping this was just a flook with this one vile, and we are going to try a second one tomorrow. But this just seems bizarre.
I am very new to all this stuff so i am curious if anyone else has dealt with this.

Re: Viles having a lower count?

  • I've never heard of that. Seems very strange.
      • TTC #1 since August 2014
      • currently on 5th medicated IUI cycle
  • I don't fully understand. When did they count the sperm? Was it 27 million before the wash and 1 after? Sounds way off
  • Yeah that seems odd. And wouldn't they cancel the IUI if there's only 1? I've heard of IUIs being cancelled for counts under 1 million. Do they give you the detailed report (%motility, %morphology, pre and post count by grade of swimmers)?
  • The woman i work with at the office says the the same things you all are saying. She has no explanation for it. We have absolutely no idea what happened. It was tested i believe at the time of freezing at 27 million. But when she started working on it (to wash it, etc.) she said there was almost nothing left. She only saw 1 sperm moving in her sample. However. I do have some good news. We pushed ahead and went today again for round to and a second vile also labeled 27 million was perfectly fine! So we atleast got one day of a sucessful sample. We did the IUI yesterday as well, but the sample was so terrible we dont have too much faith in that one.

I was really curious if any one else had heard of this because of how stumped the doctors office was. We are going to definitely try and speak to the sperm bank and see if they can give any further insight. The doctors office assured me that she did nothing different than normal and she was equally as frustrated as we were. The group of us were all so happy today when the next sample was good!
  • Also yes, they did TRY and cancel the IUI but the sample had already been de-thawed so i wanted to just do it anyway. They also attempted to cancel on me for today, and wanted to send me straight to IVF but I said i needed to try this again before i went the IVF route and low and behold it WAS okay. So it seems as thought it may have just been that one sample. But i dont know what that ultimately says about the other 8 we still have. Which is why I hope to find some kind of an answer, but realize i may never get one.
  • I dont know the post-thaw, pre-wash count. I believe it was 27mil at the time of freezing, 1 post-wash.
