Hi Ladies, the last week I have had soft stool with red blood in the stool and on the toilet paper. It's more then just a spot and it's a little concerning because Im not constipated. Anyone else dealing with this? Im 20 weeks preggo. Thanks all!

  • Is the blood dark red or light red? If it's a bright red blood than its most likely hemorrhoids however if the blood is a deep dark almost brown red it could be coming from somewhere more internal! Definitely something to mention to your doc!
  • I would check in with your doctor just to be safe. I have been suffering from hemroids and everything I read online said to contact dr if you have bleeding.
  • I have a lot of rectal bleeding even when I'm not pregnant and it's always bright red. Mine is due to hemorrhoids and I don't always have to be constipated for it to happen. Talk to your doctor about it but if it's bright red then I wouldn't worry too much!
  • It's bright red, looks new!
  • One of the many joys of motherhood.
  • If it stings to wipe it may be an anal fissure.. your doc can help with that. If it doesn't it's probably hemroids. Either way up your fiber and water intake so you don't have to strain.
  • Ditto PP. I get hemorrhoids during pregnancy. Internal bleeding would be dark red almost black because it basically gets digested in order to come out in your stool. Tell your doc just in case but I wouldn't worry.

  • I had this for 8 months (yes, 8!!!) After I had DD. No hemorrhoids, fissures, or anything they could see! Was a week away from a colonoscopy when it just stopped. No clue why! Hope it goes away soon for you though!!
  • IBS diseases can cause this too and IBS flares can be triggered by pregnancy. Much more likely that it's hemorrhoids but if it's not and your symptoms persist (especially if you've also had pain and bloating) see a gastroenterologist.
  • This happened to me a few times already. I wasn't too concerned as it was bright red. Sometimes it can happen. If it was darker I def would have talked to my doc about it.

  • I have had a fissure that comes and goes much of my life. I was recently bound up for a few days (even with mass veggies, water, and fiber) and it caused the tear to bleed. I now take two stool softeners each day to help. Perhaps that could help?
  • Im putting my money on hemorrhoids. If it was anything in your gi tract, it would be dark.
  • I'm prone to fissures as well if I get constipated. As long as it's bright red and stops it's annoying and painful but not the end of the world. I will also use stool softners if I have a problem and give it time to heal.
  • Since you're pregnant, I would also agree that it's most likely a hemorrhoid or a fissure. BUT just to set the record straight (but not to scare you) not all GI issues manifest themselves with "dark blood." I have ulcerative colitis (an inflammatory bowel disease) and when I have flare ups, the blood is also bright red. Again, not to scare anyone, but I think it's a little premature to say, "if the blood is bright red, you're fine." But since you are pregnant, you most likely ARE fine. I would still talk to your doctor though.
  • Yup, I've been dealing with this too.  Mine is from hemorrhoids. I would talk to your doctor. Mine got super painful so just last week my OB prescribed a cream that has been working wonders!
  • I have had this before and during pregnancy - not where it changes the color of the toilet bowl water, but where I can see it in stool and sometimes while wiping. Always red or pink. Had a colonoscopy in January - Dr said hemorrhoids. Never been constipated.
  • Mine is accompanied by bad pain, even up to 8 hours after I've gone to the bathroom. Any suggestions on help the pain? I've been trying warm showers/compresses on it which relieves the pain for a little bit.
