Test line getting lighter! What?

edited September 2015 in 1st Trimester
Since I have a history of early miscarriages before 8 wks. I am on 200mg of progesterone. Been taking that since Wednesday 9/9.

My period was due 9/6-9/7. Got my first faint positive the night of 11 dpo. Continued to get positives there after. I ovulated on CD 19. My beta on 9/9 was 88. I went 9/11 for my second but since it was Friday I won't get to hear the results until Monday.

I've had zero bleeding or spotting. Just dull achy type cramping on and off and sometimes more constant.

Yesterday was my first bold test line on First Response. Now this morning my line is lighter. I don't know why I do this to myself! I just have been praying for this life for so long.

Is this something I should be concerned enough about to call my doctor?

All tests are with first morning urine.

  • A line is a line is a line. You need to stop tormenting yourself with pee sticks. As pp mentioned, no one here can tell you anything for definite. It sucks to wait but you'll have to just talk to your doc on Monday. Just a friendly fyi: many people here do not like when pee stick pictures are posted, it's actually against the TOU. Good luck!

  • Thank you all for your impute. I was not asking if things are okay. I was just wondering if this happened to anyone else. I don't have a good experience with pregnancy to compare too. I continue to take tests because I have them on hand. Nothing makes me happier to see a positive test when I've been through lap surgeries, fertility treatments...etc. It is just a relief that it happened the month we didn't do any fertility medications. We just decided to do a natural cycle.

Thank you again. I will no longer take any more tests. I'm out anyways and refuse to spend any more money on pregnancy tests.

Yes-- my experience is this: line darkness means nothing for the outcome of the pregnancy. It's simply yes or no.

The amount of dye in each individual test & the individual concentration of each urine sample varies.

  • Well you did ask if it was something you should have been concerned about enough to call a doctor. That seems like you were asking if something was wrong which is why I replied as I did. Your positive tests mean you are pregnant and I truly hope you see a really good rise in your HCG on Monday!!! :)

  • Sorry about your previous losses, but yet: I don't understand why people continually test afer a BFP. A line is a line no matter how dark or light it is. No one can tell you if you are going to have a healthy pregnancy or if things won't work out. Stop peeing on things and worrying more than you should and wait until Monday to get results of blood work and talk to your doctor about the findings.

I get the wanting to continue to pee on all the sticks. I am right there, but not doing it. Even with 6 positive BFPS (3 digital and 3 blue dye tests), since I have no symptoms I think I just want the reassurance. Its crazy and obsessive. But I already peed on $60.00 worth of sticks last week and that's all I can afford!

  • I honestly wouldn't worry too much about it. A line is a line. I also like seeing the BFPs so I took my leftover FRER after I got my first BFP. One was a lot lighter than the rest and it did worry me a little even though I know it means nothing. :)

  • I know people say the line darkness varies by test. I recently had a few positives that got lighter until the line quit appearing. I ended up having a chemical pregnancy. I hope this isn't the case for you. As someone who went through 9 years of infertility I know how nerve racking everything can be and thus feeling the need to take multiple tests. I would ask your doctor about progesterone injections.
  • I would still be testing, a chemical pregnancy does get lighter. Call your doc. Hope all is ok

  • I understand where you're coming from with losses but step.away.from.the.tests. You're going to drive yourself crazy and cause undue stress to your body that isn't proactive in having a healthy pregnancy. I know it's hard and again I understand completely being worried but you've got to just wait until you get in to your doctor. I've had cramping sometimes everyday and its normal.GL and relax (or try to)

I just have to step in and say - no. While your advice was well-meaning, a little bit of stress does not cause miscarriages or contribute in anyway to measuring how healthy a pregnancy is.

Nowhere in that statement did I say stress causes miscarriage. I said stress to your body isn't proactive in having a healthy pregnancy. Big difference. I had many miscarriages and was put on bed rest due to the amount of stress I allowed myself to go through. So make sure before calling someone out for trying to comfort someone you get the facts straight. I would never tell an expectant mom her actions may cause a miscarriage unless it was something like smoking, drinking, or joining a fight club.
