I have gone through a metal detector at security but rare to see them now. They say going through the body scanner is fine because it doesn't give off enough radiation to do anything to the baby. However, I don't trust it so I opt out and get a pat down to be safe. I have flown about 4 times since I got pregnant and I get a pat down every time.
They're safe. Though if you're unsure request a pat down. And be prepared for whoever does it/whoever you request it from to give you a scathing look and take their sweet ass time fulfilling your request.
I flew on August 17th and 26th. Opted for a pat down on one leg and chose to go through a scanner on the return (much busier security area and didn't feel like waiting for an available agent). The scanner is safe but if I fly again this pregnancy, I will go for the molestation, um, pat down.
My doctor told me that the scanners were fine, that you actually end up with more radiation during the flight itself. I flew last week and went thru the scanner on her approval.
I was a flight attendant for the duration of my pregnancy to eight months. I flew long-haul flights several times a week and went through the scanners every time. They're safe.
