Babies on the Brain

What are your plans for TTC?

I've been lurking on the Trying To Get Pregnant board.

On the TTGP board, it seems like most of the women there are temping, charting, etc. in their journey to TTC. I honestly had never even heard of this before I started reading all of the posts.

Personally, I'm going to just TTC without temping or charting, and see what happens. If I don't get KU within a few months, I'm definitely open to trying the temping and charting on FF.

I have already started prenatal vitamins, and have cut my caffeine intake a ton (hopefully the headaches ease up soon). I'm also really trying to watch what I eat. We are going to TTC #1 11/2015. I am super excited!!

What are your plans when you guys TTC?

  • We aren't TTC until Septmeber/October 2016, so we have a while.

My plan though is to get my IUD out in July. I am taking multivitamins now that have folic acid, I already eat healthy and exercise regularly. I drink a cup of tea a day and will probably switch to decaf next summer.

We will be pretty laid back at first and not chart or temp. If we aren't successful, we will reevaluate.

  • I agree with your approach and we are doing it the same way. Just lots of unprotected sex haha! I feel it's more fun that way. Now, if in a few months we still aren't pregnant, I'd start with ovulation tests and stuff.

We are currently TTC. I just prefer the attitudes and vibe of this board better than others...

We stopped the BCP a year ago and used barrier methods until May. In May, we started trying, tracking loosely with FF (just dates and not symptoms) and using OPKs. Temping would stress me out too much. I'm not sure at what point I would start that, if ever.

In the meantime, I've added a prenatal, but haven't changed my lifestyle significantly otherwise.
  • I'm planning on taking vitamins and that's that. Also starting TTC right after I'm stopping with BC (which is quite normal here in the netherlands) and then just see when it goes. Charting and temp sounds like a bit too much work atm  ;) Maybe after a couple of months, but definitely not right away.

Also, the reason that my bf agreed with starting TTC in december was that we wouldn’t have to much pressure during TTC and because it’s not too likely you concieve in the first couple of months. If it does we’ll be extremely happy, if it doesn’t we had a lot of fun trying. And it’s cold in the winter ;)

  • We'll TTC in a couple of months, but I am already charting. I stopped BCPs two months ago, and the idea is that we may use charting to TTA (being comfortable with the risk) until December.

For me, it's not stressful at all, and we won't become obsessive about timing sex or anything. It's just nice to know if I ovulated, when to expect my period, etc. It will probably create less stress for me to know where I stand.

Another thing I learned charting is that my luteal phase (time between O and period) is short. This can be due to getting off BCPs, but if it persists and I have any trouble conceiving it will be useful info to share with my doctor.
  • We will start trying in January. I'm temping and charting now, because I have PCOS and really wanted to make sure I'm actually ovulating. Temping is actually super easy, and I'm a nerd, but I think it's fun! It's cool to see that my body is working.

  • I had never heard of temping or charting until I started participating in these boards. I am reading TCOYF now and finding it interesting. I will probably try charting pretty early just out of curiosity. Also, DH's work schedule may pose an issue, so it'd be nice to know when I'm ovulating in order to take full advantage of that whenever possible rather than leaving too much to chance. (He works in the gulf, so it's not like I can be one of those oilfield wives that drives to him for sessions while he's on hitch. LOL.) I am hoping so, so, so much that we don't have months of TTC and that we just get lucky. Who knows until we start though...

Pregnancy, childbirth and parenting is something that I'm so nervous about. I'm naturally a very nervous, anxious person and I have a tendency to get really obsessive about new things in my life. I feel like TTC, pregnancy and all that is a bit out of my control, so by reading, learning and trying to take charge of it all in any way I can helps with my nerves. Haha. Idk.

  • We just started TTC but we already have a DD who is 20 months old. We're going to wing it for the next few months and if I'm not KU by January I'm going to start temping/charting. I get very anxious about things, similar to PP, and I want to take a laid back approach at first. That's what we did with DD and it worked out, although things may be different this time.

  • We decided we'd start TTC this month after AF.  I'm not planning on temping or charting these next few months.  We'd like to stay calm and relaxed and hope for the best, but like many of you have said, if nothing happens after a few months, I will start temping/charting.

I have been taking a multivitamin with folic acid since April, but I've been taking an actual prenatal since about mid July into August.  I've also cut back on my coffee intake, and if/when I drink tea, it's caffeine free.  DH and I have been working out more, and I've really been trying to eat cleaner and up my water intake.
