Trouble in Urine-Town

Hello Ladies.
So FTM 16.5 weeks and having trouble in Urine Town. I thought it was a UTI (having frequently suffered them in my past). But no. All cultures came back clear and negative. I'm not having any pain, just discomfort in the urethra department. A kind of pressure around my bladder area too when I urinate. Doc said its not because the LO is putting pressure there because LO has moved on up. Anyone have experience with this?

Re: Trouble in Urine-Town

  • I've experienced this while pregnant. Have you been checked for Kidney stones?

Often small ones will pass & create discomfort in the urethra on their exit. If you have some crystals or residual blockage then the urethra canal can get clogged & cause this sensation.

That is a guess, mind you. Your individual situation & anatomy may simply be moving about to accommodate baby.

I would drink some lemonade & tons of water. Flush your system & when you urinate lean forward slightly. You can lift your bump up gently & lean forward as you eliminate. That can help urine pass more effectively to "clean/flush" the canal. You may have a little build up of waste product or a small stone that is preventing full elimination.

As always keep watch for pain, fever or any other sign of infection. I'm glad your cultures came back clean. Good luck!

  • Thank you so much for your reply. Really appreciate it.
  • I felt kinda sore and urine would come out quite warm but not burning pins needles sensation like with a uti.

I choked it down to me maybe having excess acid in my body and tried to eat more alkaline foods and stay away from fizzy drinks...

Went away. Make sure u eat yoghurt and cabbages, broccoli, cauliflower etc. google alkaline foods and you will see whats good to eat and stick with the highly alkaline foods.

I haven't got a uti yet but always make sure u pee the moment u feel u need to. Holding it in can make that burning sensation worser
  • Sounds like dehydration. Lots and lots of fluids are needed. Something like Water, Lemonade, or Milk. :)
  • Yeah I'm in a similar situation. Feels like the beginnings of a uti (for weeks now), but cultures come back clear. I thought it was pressure from the baby......but I'm 15 weeks tmw so it sounds like that's not the culprit? I'm definitely dehydrated. More water for the both of us!

I was told that everything in around or near the baby could just feel WEIRD. And to not worry.
  • This has happened to me while not pregnant but it sounds like the same thing. Thought I had the beginning stages of a UTI (like when you think you are about to get one) and test came back negative. This is what the doc told me. Drink A LOT of water. When you are dehydrated your bladder contracts and gives you the same feeling that a UTI has.
  • Lolo7339 : Any improvements?

  • Hi! Yes actually. Your feedback was so helpful. Esp in adjusting my posture. If I sit up and lift my belly when I am going pee it relieves a lot of the pressure. Thank you so much for you help. It's amazing what "not feeling alone" can do to lift the spirits.

  • I just want to add that when you're further along, lifting your belly might be necessary. If my baby is laying towards my front I can't empty my bladder completely and it's very uncomfortable. I'm 27 weeks. Also, dehydration can make braxton hicks worse or cause them to be too frequent.
  • It might also help to take a probiotic...could just be that you don't have an infection but maybe feel a little funky because you have some excess bacteria in your system...I usually feel better (both w/ stomach and bladder) when I take one.  Hope this helps!
