Cramps are they normal?

I'm 5 weeks pregnant and this is my first pregnancy. I'm really not sure on what to expect, so every little cramp I get I freak out they're not painful. Are cramps normal? :-<

Re: Cramps are they normal?

  • Yes, cramps are very normal. As is spotting/light bleeding. Only be concerned if the cramps don't go away or any bleeding gets worse or doesn't stop. Drink lots of water and rest when you need to. That will be your mantra for the entire pregnancy. ;)

  • Yep, I've also found I'm prone to cramp if I move a certain way, too.

  • Yep, I am cramping away. Totally normal. Its your uterus expanding for the LO!

I actually get worried now when I DONT have cramps!

  • Yes, normal - I notice I cramp way more when I haven't had enough water or if I'm doing too much (on my feet all day).

  • Cramps are almost my only symptom at this point, so I get nervous when they AREN'T there!! Haha ;)
  • I kinda enjoy the cramps right now. .. gives me a feeling that something is going on down there until I see it with an US. Until they make me need to pee that is.... I'm tempted to move into the bathroom for the next 9 months.
  • I'm getting cramps as well. Sometimes they are bad period type cramp pains. Still makes me worry
  • I am getting some off and on too... totally normal :)

  • I get little pains now and then sometimes it's tingly too. No bleeding which is good. I had a chemical a year ago, those cramps were bad. I think mild discomfort is necessary.
  • Thanks, this helps out a lot more. I appreciate you're replies. I think I just overreact a little since it's my first pregnancy.
  • This is my first pregnancy too and I'm likewise freaking out over cramps. As long as they don't hurt too badly and go away quickly I'm good- but as soon as it's a slightly sharper one I have to calm myself down. I've been assured that both the cramping and the freaking out is normal. My doctor actually told me to try to forget I'm preggers since it can help calm down nerves. Not sure how I'm supposed to do that when I feel like I'm about to puke if I move too fast though!
  • I usually get them at night and it's really hard to get comfortable.
  • I had cramps for a week, sometimes even strong ones that made me get a hot water bottle, and now they've pretty much stopped - don't worry, my OB says that's very normal. It's just your uterus doing some stretching!
  • I am right there with you. This is my first pregnany so every little thing stresses me out. But yes, cramps are normal. I have had cramps that come in waves throughout the day since I got my BFP. Sometimes they are so strong I get out my heating pad to try and relax.

I'm the same!!! They're driving me a little insane. Especially towards the end of the day and at night. So uncomfortable all the time at the moment!
  • So glad i found this thread as i have been FREAKING out with these cramps.. feels like period pain and im like oh noooo i hope theyre not coming !

I have both of these and man oh man is it awful mentally.  My scan is next week.  My mantra for this entire pregnancy is "grow baby grow".  Just like last time.
  • Most of my cramping has felt more intestinal, though that could be normal as well. Been experiencing some side stitches as welll
