Is anyone else a little freaked out or disturbed by the changes in their nipples? Mine have gotten many many shades darker and my areolas are bigger too. There are other weird changes but those are definitely TMI. :-P

Re: Possible TMI: Nipples.

  • I was with DD. I googled everything about new bumps, coloring, size, etc. They'll go back (sort of) after baby and breastfeeding. I feel like mine are the size of a cookie. And not a nice little oreo size. Like big ol' homemake cookies. :P

  • Mine have gotten darker. Oddly enough my husband thinks it's fantastic
  • It depends to on your skin tone too. I'm Hispanic. I went from light caramel to dark chocolate. Is anything during during pregnancy tmi? There's gonna be like half a dozen people up your who-ha in front of your partner and maybe your mom. Ask away!
  • My husband is loving all the changes in my boobs, especially the size. He's a boob man.
The thing I'm having the most trouble with is before being pregnant I had inverted nipples. One more so than the other but whateve . Now one is an outtie and the other is flat but when I look at hem they're so gross to me. I guess I just never really knew what "normal" nipples looked lik .

  • Right at the end of my 12 week appointment, my midwife said, "OK now show me your breasts" (I was fully clothed at the time, and hadn't gotten a full physical exam prior to that point). It definitely caught me off guard, even though it was just her and my husband in the room lol. So I lifted up my shirt and popped my boobs out of my bra. She took one look and said, "Oh, you've got great nipples," and that was that. Definitely the first time they've ever been complimented, but it gives me a bit of hope for breastfeeding :)
  • I wonder what your other TMI is because I definitely have some nipple TMI going on but am too weirded out to ask about it.
  • It's another really neat thing about how our bodies are designed. They get so dark so that a newborn can find them to nurse since their eye sight isn't great at first.

I was pretty shocked at how mine looked (and other tmi) by the time I got to the third tri.

My breasts, areolas, and nipples are all about ten times their usual size right now. They went perfectly back to normal when I stopped breastfeeding DD. Like PP said, it's kind of amazing how our bodies change to help baby find the right spot to nurse! I also have some solid-ish discharge (maybe that's what some of you have that are embarrassed to talk about) coming from my ducts right now. It's all good- that means your breasts are already gearing up production for when baby arrives! Just wait until milk comes in- if you wait too long to feed, it'll feel like your breasts are full of marbles! Lots of weird things going on with your boobs for the next while. Just remind yourself that it's not permanent, but it's very important for baby! :)
  • This is my fourth pregnancy. They have definitely got bigger and darker with this pregnancy. Not weirded out but I'm just like wow.
  • Anyone else leaking already?? I'm 20 w 3d and yesterday out of the blue I started leaking.
  • Mine get really dark, your actual nipple will start to grow a bit too as you approach birth, in addition to your areola. You'll also start to sprout weird bumps called montgomery follicles which release a scent just for your baby at birth so your baby can find your breast. It's all pretty fascinating stuff. A strange transition, but fascinating none the less.
