High heart rate?

My heart rate has been increasing significantly recently (33 weeks).

Today, just from walking around the house for about 5 mins my heart rate reached 120bpm. After laying down and taking over an hour nap it went down to 90bpm, which still seems fairly high.

Is this normal because of bring farther along in the pregnancy?

Re: High heart rate?

  • A resting heart rate of 90bpm would be alarming for me, but my typical is between 64 and 69. You might consider calling or messaging your clinic/office to see what they think regarding your specific case.

  • Mine has been around 125 for the past two days. It usually ran about 115bpm pre-pregnancy though.

  • I've been tracking my heart rate throughout the pregnancy and it's ranged from 63bpm-80bpm up until about a week ago when it started reaching triple digits without any physical exertion.
  • @blinkbaby, when was your last appointment? Were you able to chat with your doctor about it?

  • @LiveNLove44 a few weeks ago. I go back on Wednesday for my next ultrasound so I'll talk to them then. I guess I was just curious if this was something I should go in for, or what number should be alarming enough to go in prior to my appt? My doctor won't be back in the office until Tuesday so just curious if anyone else had dealt with this. Nervous ftm, haha.
  • I think it warrants a call to L&D to see what the on-call doctor says. They can pull your records and give you a better idea of what is concerning for you or not. I just looked through my medical records from my pregnancy with DD, and I don't see any shift in my resting heart rate. That's just me, but I also think it is the reason I'd recommend you calling to check with your clinic or the L&D department at the hospital. It's one of those, better safe than sorry, situations.

  • I'm in the hospital on bed rest and they take my Bp and heart rate every 4 hours and being bed ridden my HR is still in the 85-100 range normally. I read that pregnancy increases your HR. They don't seem to be concerned.
  • It is normal for your heart rate to increase slightly during pregnancy.  Also, our bodies are working harder so things that would not normally increase your heart rate, might make it jump up faster, even walking around the house for 5 minutes like you mentioned.  If you are concerned about it definitely ask your doctor.  My resting HR prepregnancy was usually 65-80.  During pregnancy it has been 80-90.
  • I've had this problem. Resting heart rate sometimes is like 90 or more! Makes it hard to sleep. I'm usually not above 120 though. My doctor said not to worry unless it's getting up into the 120s regularly. I hate it. Makes me feel so sick.
  • I never take mine so I wouldn't even know what's normal. But I would say if you've been 90's and under in the past, a regular pop up to 120 may be concerning. I think higher is normal with all the extra work out body is doing though. Maybe just call the nurse line to start?
  • My pre-pregnancy resting heart rate was in the high 50's low 60's. I just took my HR after a cup of coffee and it was 84. I know HR increases durin pregnancy but if your heart rate wasn't normally on the higher side pre-pregnancy I would talk to the doctor about it.
  • This happens to me, right after I eat breakfast or if I don't drink enough water. I clocked it at 120 a few times. When it happens it only lasts about 30 min. But my resting is normal, around 70.
  • Thanks everyone! I called the nurse hotline and they weren't too concerned. They basically said what many here have said, that at this point my body is working much harder to do anything so just basic things El increase my heart rate significantly.

They said if my resting heat rate after sitting for over 30 mins jumps above 120 to call back but otherwise just try to take it easy.
