pack n play or crib???

Im sooo undecided on what to go with!! Pregnant with my second son. With my first, 4 years ago. I used a crib but didnt last long. He ended up co sleeping after 6 months.. Anyhow I've never used a nursery pack n play before.. Was given ths advice to use one rather than a crib this time around. Any thoughts?? Im also having a c section. So considering that too..

Re: pack n play or crib???

  • PNP isn't really meant for long term sleeping. The mattress is hard and very thin. We use ours with a secondary foam mattress for travel.

However, DD slept in hers in our room for the first two months and then we moved her to her crib. She was in the top bassinet part.

  • I always had both plus a bassinet. I would put the pack and play down stairs but use the crib for the baby to sleep at night. I also used the pack n play and bassinet for when we would visit family etc. But I also did not co-sleep so I got good use out of all items.
  • We are doing both, plus a bassinet to keep in our room when baby comes home.  As PP have mentioned, we will be using it downstairs as an alternative and for when we travel.  Do you still have your crib from your first and you're just deciding whether to set it back up, or is he using it now as a bed (if it's a convertible one)? I'd say if you do have it, maybe purchase a PNP and see how this baby does with a crib and always return the PNP if you don't think it's something worth holding onto.
  • ...You can get mattresses for pack and plays. Just saying.
  • No my son uses a twin bed now. So i would have to purchase either or.. I just know for a fact i didnt use the crib much. My son had collic so he spent alot of time in the swing and next to me.. Whatever soothed his tummy.. so i don't want to waste money again.. I was thinking of purchasing a cuddle cove pnp with an extra mattress too cause i know the comfort thing. I myself want to get another crib. But if ill get more longterm use from a pnp ill just go with pnp. Just never used one before. Lol
  • We chose to go with a 4-1 convertible crib and a pack n play, however as others have said will use the pack n play downstairs and mainly travel otherwise the baby will be in her own room/crib...I'm not one to have a baby in bed with me.
