While we're at it...share your aversions

I started the "Share Your Cravings" thread the other day, and a couple of people mentioned that they're experiencing aversions.

Soooo... share your aversions!

----

I'll start: desserts, which is weird, because I have a HUGE sweet tooth.

Also, some smells. One minute, I'm loving my fall scented candle... the next, I have to hide it and go to another room. :-&

Re: While we're at it...share your aversions

  • I've noticed that I'll be hungry but literally no food sounds appetizing. Or I'll be craving something and once I have it sitting in front of me, the look and smell of it nauseates me. Since before I was pregnant, I had been on a real kick of eating grilled chicken with mozzarella and fresh basil, I was eating it a couple nights a week for dinner. The other day I was super excited to eat it, so I made it up, sat down, and found it repulsive. This has been happening with almost everything I've eaten! I'll push through and eat it anyway and then spend the rest of the day thinking about how I'm never going to eat that food again!
  • Loading the player...
  • This morning my DH made scrambled eggs which I normally love. The minute I got the scent I felt ill.
  • I am not into the sweets, either! Usually I love them.

Everything just sounds unappealing right now. But if I don't eat, I get really nauseous. It's an awful cycle.

  • Sugary sweet things. Bleh. I had some leftover soda from the other day I figured I would finish just to get out of the fridge and it was not good. I took one sip and ended up dumping the rest. Had a few Oreos last night that were leftover in the package and I ate them but they weren't very good to me... And I love Oreos. :(

Bring on the fresh veggies and spicy/savory/salty foods.
  • When I was pregnant with my son, I lived on macaroni and cheese during my first tri. Now of course it is his favorite food but even thinking about eating it makes my stomach turn.

  • I can't do chocolate, coffee, or fried stuff anymore. The chocolate aversion was difficult yesterday because our family was celebrating my Dad's birthday with chocolate cake. We haven't announced yet, so I took a few bites, then slid the rest to DH to finish.
  • Only coffee so far, but that's been with all three pregnancies. Makes me so sad. I love coffee :-(

  • Ugh, chopped meat. DH made burgers on the grill and while he was prepping and seasoning the meat I was ready to hurl.

And I usually love a good burger!

  • Pretty much everything. :( yesterday some green beans put a quick end to dinner with family for me.
  • I can't have anything sweet. :( It makes me nauseous and burpy.
  • Chicken Fajitas. We had it last week for dinner and I swear the thought of it now makes me want to puke. Blech.

  • The only thing grossing me out is turkey. Specifically a turkey sandwich. Technically we aren't supposed to eat those anyway, but grilling one up has been my go to lunch. Guess I'll switch to peanut butter....

  • I'm off meat at the moment. I'm not a vegetarian, but lately the thought, smell,or sight of meat makes me nauseous. I'm running out of dinner ideas, nothing seems appetizing right now....

  • coffee :-S and sweets- but not all the time. I was offered chocolate ice cream at my mom's on Friday and it sounded awful. This morning I put Nutella on a couple of pancakes. Don't judge.

  • The worst one for me has been the smell of rubbish. I swear I can smell my neighbour's trash. A bin lorry (garbage truck) drove past me and I nearly vomited on my shoes.

Also my mac and cheese tasted horrible today. I don't know if I can ever eat it again.

  • Kale. Or leafy greens/salad in general. All of which I normally love. I made some kale tonight and it sounded so good at the time... Smelled good cooking. Eating? Not so much. I ate what I put on my plate, but it was definitely a chore.
  • @lalala2004 why no turkey sandwiches? Am I missing something? I go to dr tomorrow to learn all the food no nos...

They say not to eat cold lunch meat because there is a risk of it having listeria on it and also because of the preservatives used on them. (Nitrates/nitrites)

  • @JessicaB0627 well I guess that means no midnight sandwiches since my DH went to the store on his way home last night and bought me lunch meat... he got the cheap round pressed could be anything Turkey to top it all off.
  • @KKMalinowski If you heat the meat up it will kill the bacteria! The nitrites are still there but there are nitrites in a lot of stuff anyway. Just have a hot turkey sandwich! ;)
  • I'm off most sweet stuff (which is weird for me I have a major sweet tooth) if I don't feel like it one bite makes me queasy... I can't stand yogurt at the moment and if I could live on yogurt alone I would so its sad that I can't touch the stuff

most dinners I make sound good and smell good when I'm making them but I get 2 bites in and I don't like it.. my hubby is enjoying it because he gets 2 dinners :P

I'm mainly living on Vegemite bread with the crust cut off (don't like the taste of crusts or the smell of the toaster) and plain crackers

  • Bacon and ketchup mostly. I've never loved k ketchup but liked it okay on fries, the smell of it is almost enough to get me.

Honestly, I think the risk is overblown. As we know, food bacteria such as listeria has been found in the past years in spinach, cantaloupe, and ice cream. I hardly think anyone is going to tell us to not eat those foods.

Yes!!  My mom LIVED on cold cut sandwiches during both of her pregnancies and she always says that things now are so over dramatic.  I understand there is risk, but isn't there risk with most things?

    I ate sushi.
    The raw fish kind.
    Twice.

  • I wish I was craving something right now. Since the nausea has kicked in, nothing has tasted or sounded good. I usually love food. It's bumming me out a bit.
  • Feels like pretty much everything is an aversion at this point. :(

SAME HERE, all I have had today is a peanut butter sandwich... I think my tummy feels better having NOT eaten than it did when I ate....
  • Walnuts and apricots, blech. They used to be a go to snack and now I can't even think about them without gagging.

Gosh...basically anything heated, greasy, or sweet sounds awful.  DH showed me a picture of a funnel cake, I thought I was going to lose it!

    Edit: I can't type.
  • My husband makes a lot of Indian food and the smell of his curried rice makes me want to puke!
  • EVERYTHING... going to the grocery store last night was MISERABLE
  • Everything except watermelon, bagels and crispy chicken sandwiches.
  • I thought everything was yesterday. But today? Literally everything. Morning sickness is here folks. I feel like I want to puke. And I can't. :-&

I wash my melons with soap and water before cutting them. I think the risk of listeria is less than what people make it out to be, however, the risk is still there. An old boss of mine had her daughter at 26 weeks because she ate something with listeria. So every time I want to eat deli meat or melons her situation is always in the back of my mind.
