2nd round of clomid

i just finished my second round of clomid. I've been reading a lot about folicles but haven't heard my dr. talk about it to me, at least that I can remember. Is it normal not to see the dr. after each clomid round?

Re: 2nd round of clomid

  • If the cycle was a bfn and your follicles were monitored during the cycle then yes, they normally don't see you. Does he monitor the size of your follicles and how many there are?
  • Do you see your doctor (or someone at the clinic) DURING the round of Clomid?  Are you seeing a RE or an OB/GYN?
    *** Child & current pregnancy mentioned ***
    Me - 41 (PCOS), Hubby - 43 (healthy)
7/2013 - Sweet baby girl born (Clomid + TI)
    3/2014 - TTC #2, return to RE 7/2014
12/2015: IVF #1 transferred two great looking embryos - BFP!
First ultrasound: TWO beautiful little heartbeats!!
Harmony: negative; level 2: babies look great and are boy/girl! :)

  • If you're seeing a normal OBGYN, it's common for them to just prescribe Clomid with no ultrasounds or checking.  For some people the drugs are all they need.  However, I did three months like that and then transferred to an RE (fertility specialist).  At that point is when they monitor your whole cycle while you're on Clomid to see how your body is reacting to it (how many mature follicles, uterine lining thickness, etc.).
  • I'm seeing an RE. She's the one who did an ultrasound and then prescribed Clomid. I can't remember specifics about follicles but of course when I'm in the room I always forget every single question I wanted to ask :( I had to be seen right before my second round because they thought I had a cyst but that was negative.
  • The process my doctor follows is: day 1 U/S to check for cysts and whatnot, take Clomid or the like for days 3-7? (or something like that, I forget how long), menopur shot at around day 10, U/S to check the state of the follicles at around day 13 and 14.  Once enough of them are big (ie mature), they give me the HCG trigger shot.  I come in the next 2 days for IUIs.  I think that's pretty standard.

A reason she might be avoiding the whole U/S process (and other shots?) might be because you're early in your infertility situation and perhaps she first wants to see if Clomid by itself will resolve things.  Forgoing the U/S and other drugs certainly saves you a bit of cash as well.

Regarding forgetting questions, anytime you think of something make a note of it in your phone on a single page.  When you go to the doc you can set a reminder to ask in your phone and then go through the notes.  If you have concerns, you should definitely discuss with your doctor.
