Just had our nuchal translucency at 13wks and it showed 14mm. We're going for genetic counseling and CVS tomorrow. Is there any chance at all baby will be ok? Dr says it's very very very unlikely. I'm so scared and heartbroken...
Isn't the normal range below 3? That seems very high like I've never heard of that. I also thought the NT scan was just a screening and by no means a confirmation. But maybe I'm wrong? Keep us posted!
I think so. I'm not familiar with the exact numbers, but I do read posts all of the time where things look bad on ultrasounds, but it ends up being a false alarm. CVS is diagnostic, ultrasounds are not and don't give doctors the most accurate picture all of the time. We had an ultrasound where our baby's brain ventricles looked large, so they sent us for an MRI. Ultrasounds are just limited. I would see what the specialist says, as they have way more experience and try to wait for the CVS results before assuming anything. Did they tell you what could be wrong? Because most things are accompanied by others. When they only find one thing, they're usually comforted by that. If you Google, try to only Google success stories so you don't freak yourself out even more. Either way, we'll be thinking of you and your baby. Sending positive thoughts and good luck your way.
I know how nerve racking it is. I hope the CVS went as smoothly as possible. We were able to get our initial results within 2 business days and the final confirmation with more details about a week after the CVS. Did your doctor mention the HCG and Papp-a levels from the blood work? While it is a screening not diagnostic they are usually abnormally high or low if there is a chromosomal abnormality. Take it easy and be gentle w/yourself.
Did they call it a cystic hygroma or just high NT? They found the same thing at my first trimester screen and then didn't even bother with the blood work because by itself it is a high likelihood of genetic abnormality. But, if your baby's genetics are normal (the CVS should tell you this) the cystic hygromas do sometimes go away on their own. When they go away they usually go away by 16 or 20 weeks.
