Progesterone 7 weeks & twins

I have had this feeling that I am pregnant with twins. Everyone just laughs at the thought but the feeling won't go away. My mother is a twin and there are two other sets of twins on my mothers side including her brother and sister. I am one of four children and everyone except me has had babies (no twins yet). I am a bit terrified of having twins as this is my first pregnancy. My progesterone measured 33.8 at 7 weeks. Anyone have any input? Im now almost 9 weeks and belly has started showing (I am skinny so this could be why too). I can't seem to shake this feeling. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Progesterone 7 weeks & twins

  • My progesterone was 31 at 5 weeks. I'm just having one don't no if that helps x

  • Anything. It's not that I wouldn't want twins if I found out I was pregnant with twins. It would be pretty cool. I just cannot shake this feeling!
  • I think your HCG would be higher if having twins, not your progesterone. Good luck, either way!

@cmerribury They won't tell me it... I've ask three times!
  • From my brief internet research, it looks like higher levels can be a sign of multiples but the levels in question were like 50s and 60s, not 30s. Average progesterone is 9-47 in 1st tri.

    3 miscarriages - 1 DS (6) - 1 DD (3)  - #3 due March 30!

  • I honestly wouldn't even worry about it until you have a scan or hear two heartbeats on the doppler. It seems silly to get yourself worked up when you should find out when you have a doppler done (or an earlier ultrasound). You'll find out before delivery no matter what, worry about it if it becomes a valid situation.

Agreed. A "feeling" really doesn't mean anything.

  • Everyone on my last bmb thought they were having twins. Yes it's more likely if you have a family history but I would just wait until you know. When is your first ultrasound? And why won't your doctor give you your hcg levels? That's really weird....

  • @NicoleK9873 They probably don't want you to worry. If they are pleased with it, take comfort in that...and just wait it out to see if it's one or two. :)

  • @nachosandpeaches They didn't even test my HCG levels. I just found out. Explains why they wouldn't tell me. Is this normal?
  • They tested your progesterone but not your HCG?  That strikes me as odd.  I've been pregnant several times--no live children yet--and I've never had my progesterone tested without HCG, though I've certainly had HCG without progesterone.

Anywho, your progesterone really isn't that high.  It's a great number to support a healthy pregnancy, but it's not particularly high.  I'd hang tight until your ultrasound, no use reading the tea leaves before then.

  • I mean usually if they do a blood test they would check both, so that's a bit odd. But the only thing to confirm twins is two heartbeats, not a feeling, not high levels.
