Double Ovulation?

I've always been very in tune with my body. I typically just get crampy and back paint on 1 side during ovulation. This month I'm super crampy on both sides. Any chance this is a double ovulation? Not that I'll ever really be able to tell.. Unless twins happened. I was just curious what others feel like this time of the month.

Re: Double Ovulation?

  • I never feel a thing when I ovulate, so I couldn't say.

  • I don't get ovulation pain (at least that I have noticed yet). It is possible to ovulate/release more than one egg, not sure if its possible from different sides. I haven't read much on it.

Even though you are "very in tune with your body" the only way to know if what your feeling is actually from ovulation is in hindsight by temping.

  • I temp every morning at 6 am. My pain always coincides with it. It's pretty cool! I've been like this as long as I can remember.
  • It could be ovulation pain, but it could be something else like gas. I get cramps throughout my cycle and sometimes it might be ovulation related and other times it's not; just never know.

I sometimes experience pains and cramps in my FW. I'm not sure if this is ovulation pain or not because it really doesn't matter to me.  I temp so I know that I ovulate and I try not to validate every pain, pull, or cramp.  I have heard that its possible to ovulate from both sides at the same time...whether this is true or not is beyond me.

  • I know when I'm ovulating, but it took a few months of charting to confirm ovulation with temp spike to see how my physical symptoms (outside of cervical position and cervical mucus) are around ovulation. It's not an exact science so I use CBE digital ovulation sticks to also help me confirm LH surge. I usually have cramps (twinges too) and tender breast within 24-48 hours of O. That being said I also have cramps occasionally before and always after O as well. Sometimes across my abdomen and sometimes it's just on one side. I'm not sure that means you'll actually ovulate from both sides.

  • Usually that means I have to poop. :-??

You can have a multiple egg release gene, but it usually runs on the maternal side. I'm a the daughter of a twin set. My mother is the daughter (singleton) of my birth grandmother who was also a twin. Fraternal-- identical twins are not a genetic thing. They are spontaneous split if an egg.

So it's possible but no way to know for sure.

Edit: Posted on the wrong board lol.  Had multiple windows open.

I've had pain on both sides too and only ovulated from one.
  • Can you ovulate from both ovaries in the same cycle? Yes.  There is no way for you to be sure that this happened though, without an U/S or having twins.

There is a gene for hyperovulation passed down generally on the mother's side as mentioned above, but there are other factors that can contribute to hyperovulation or likelihood of having twins- women with higher BMI, older women, consumption of larger amounts of dairy, and a host of other things.
