Infertility

How long to get a plan?

Hello! DH and I are in process of doing all the testing for infertility. I have my hsg test soon and he has his last testing the end of the month. Based on what we know so far our RE is thinking IVF will most likely be the next step. I'm just wondering once testing is done how long to expect before the IVF process will begin. I would love to hear others experiences. Thanks!

Re: How long to get a plan?

  • Hi there,
I think it depends on your cycle and doctor as well. We found out that we needed IVF in Feb. however, we took some time to plan our finances and enjoy the summer. I just started Lupron injections.
Best of luck for you and ur hubby.

  • Hi @Minnie1155 Once my DH and I finished our tests (HSG, sperm, day 3, etc) and we decided on IVF, we waited for my cycle to start and then began the IVF process. I'll be on birth control for 19 days, which is pretty standard, and then will start the injections. My retrieval and transfer are scheduled for early Oct. A typical IVF process is around 6 weeks including the time you're on BC pills, if that's a part of your protocol.
    Me: 33 | DH: 35
    DX: Dilated fallopian tubes
10/05: First IVF ET | Transferred 1 blast
    Beta: October 19th | BFP!

  • Thank you both for responses, I'm just wanting everything to get started quickly now that we know we need help. I need to remember patience and how important it is within this whole process. Wishing you both the best of luck!

@Minnie1155 I started IUI the first cycle after all our testing was complete.
    But now I'm doing IVF.
Once your tests are finished they will probably start you on day 3 of your next period.
Day 3 I went in for blood work, blood pressure test and a prescription for birth control.
Today, day 5, I started taking it.
    Sept 25th I start injections
    October 6th possible egg retrieval
October 9th possible transfer (but I'm trying to move it to a 5 day transfer rather than 3)

That's my schedule- hope it helps you calculate yours! I was the same way before starting.

  • I went for my first consult appt in early June and we started bcp mid July. Our process went prety fast because I have a wedding to be in next July and if all goes well I would love to not be prego during wedding. But over all I would say it is about a 6 week process from when bcp start to stims to retrieval to transfer to first beta. FX for ur BFP.
  • Thanks for all the feedback, I'm glad I posted here rather than just sitting and wondering. I'm surprised at how fast everything moves! I'm going to be out of town for a few days during my next cycle, I'm hoping that would cause the process to hold up. Thank you all again!
