Teething and orajel

My 6 month old is getting his two bottom teeth and has been absolutely miserable. I can't stand to see him in pain and he refuses to chew on cold teething rings. I was doing some reading and I know regular baby orajel is not good for children under the age of two because of the Benzocaine in it. But I did some research and saw Orajel has a naturals one that's Benzocaine free. Has anyone tried that for your little one?

Re: Teething and orajel

  • We're in the same boat! We've been using the Orajel Naturals stuff with our son, and it does seem to help for a minute or two, but the effects wear off pretty quickly.

That said, it's been great when he's on the verge of sleep but just won't stop crying—the distraction of applying it to his gums and the slight numbing effect seem to help him relax enough to sleep. Good luck!!

  • I tried cold teething rings but my daughter didn't like it so I don't give them to her cold. I will wet a wash cloth in cold water and try to massage her gum and then she'll start chewing on it and it helps
  • I give my baby Hyland's teething tablets. Those seem to help, but I'll looK into the Orajel naturals too!
  • My daughter had her first tooth break through two days ago. She had been fussy and even ran a bit of a low grade fever for the week before. Tylenol helped although I do try to stay away from it overall. I recall when I was getting my wisdom teeth I lived on ibuprofen, so I can only imagine what those first couple teeth are like for our LO's! Hope you have luck with the Orajel!
  • So I went out and got the naturals and night time one works but the day time one seems to work for A few minutes and then he gets really sleepy but won't sleep cause he's in pain again. I'm going to try the teething tablets instead.
