Hi there. My husband and I were scheduled to do our first IUI on Monday and we're excited to try it after a long time of ttc with no luck and a hysterscopy in April. Of course I ovulated early and the Drs don't do IUI on weekends so we're missing this cycle.

It's so upsetting. According to my fertility friend app which had been pretty accurate I'm going to ovulate on a weekend next cycle too! Has this happened to anyone else? I'm so sick of this waiting game.

-July 2 (CD12) - closed 3-5: IUI not desired by us - clomid/HCG
-July 31 (CD11) - closed 8/1-2: follicles not ready, ovulated on my own 8/2 - clomid
-Aug 28 (CD11) - closed 29-30, story below
They have always recommend I come in CD13 for U/S to monitor the maturity of the follicles and possibly administer HCG. But as you can see the last 3 cycle have been earlier.
DH and I knew we wanted to do IUI this cycle, but my CD13 fell on Sunday. As soon as AF arrived I was on the phone with my RN discussing my concerns that coming in on Friday (CD11 too soon) vs Monday (CD14 already ovulated) would not allow for an IUI and we desperately wanted to pursue it this cycle. Every time I came up with a scenario or question I called them. I cannot stress how important it is you call and talk through your desires and concerns.
Some Questions I asked were:
"When should I come in for the U/S"
"If CD11 is too soon then what?"
"What if I ovulate before CD14"
"What do you do for other couples who desire an IUI but CD13 always land on the weekend"
"Is there a clinic or facility where you can send us for monitoring and the IUI procedure"
"BD timing if we do an IUI"
"1 IUI vs 2"
They didn't always have an answer and to be honest, I think I stumped and frustrated my RN more than once. But we're talking about a desired pregnancy, no question is out of line, this is your body, your decision... you need all the information.
In the end my RN and I (with guidance from our OB) agreed on an U/S Friday August 28 (CD11) and another U/S Monday August 30 (CD14). We would also have an office appointment with our OB on Friday after the U/S to answer additional questions in detail. We came to this because my other option was to see a fertility specialist (which I will start seeing my next cycle if this cycle doesn't take) over the weekend and the cost to do the IUI through him was easily 4x the cost as my OB. I felt if this cycle didn't take it was best to save what infertility benefit I had on true infertility services. I knew there was a risk I'd ovulate over the weekend on my own but the decision to forego the weekend IUI was a decision DH and I came to together.
I went in Friday (8/28) and I had 4 mature follicles and a strong lining. Everyone was excited, we could do the HCG and IUI. Here's where the internet drove me crazy... We did the HCG injection at 1030a and the IUI 3 hours later at 130p. It seems EVERYONE out there has an IUI AFTER the HCG, like 24-36 hours after. I discovered this after the office closed for the weekend. I had so many questions: Would the sperm last 36 hrs? Did we just do this when there's no hope? Why would my OB recommend this, doesn't he have our desires and interest at heart?
I finally found an article that put my mind at ease. It's best for sperm to be waiting for the released egg than to go hunting and possibly miss the release because of the journey. Sperm can last 2-5 days so IUI plus BD covers most days (daily BD was recommended by our OB). I recalled our OB telling us he has one objective, get us pregnant. He wouldn't do something that didn't give us that chance, in the end I trust him to help make this happen. We entered the TWW today.
I hope my long story helps you. I would also recommend asking where your OB stands on HCG injections and IUIs. IUI before or after HCG, how long, and why.
T&P
@Drove2u I know! I am so excited I finally got it done. Now I just have to get through this tww. I am already making plans for next cycle because I don't have high hopes this will work. 20% really isn't a fantastic chance.
@mylienc GL with this cycle! I hope the IUI works for you. My RE did the IUI 36 hours after the HCG shot, I know I ovulated late that night so we were safe. They also have you BD the night of the shot though, and we BDd last night too just to be safe. I hope one of them finds my egg!
