Infertility

Introduction

Hi I am 28 years old and my husband is 27. We have been married for 7 years and in '09 I had a miscarriage. We have been "trying" since then, and we weren't even aware we were having issues with infertility. My husband is in the military and with his crazy schedule and deployments we thought it was all just wrong timing. Until 4 months ago when we went to a specialist. We found out his morphology results were not good, along with some low motility. So we were told we could try IUI, but IVF would be a better option for us. So this month I had my first IUI, it was a medicated cycle 100mg clomid for 5 days, and a trigger shot on the 19th. I had IUI two days in a row 20 and 21. I am so new to this entire journey that I'm not sure what to expect. I've had really bad nausea and some on and off cramping for maybe 2 days and no other crazy symptoms. I have read that trigger shot can cause some of these symptoms. I'm trying to stay as positive as possible but this 2ww is just horrible. I go in on the 4th for blood work. Should I just wait it out, or give in to testing?

I just want to start off by saying good luck to you! The trigger shot can mimic early pregnancy symptoms. Afterall, it is a high dose of the pregnancy hormone. Also, other medication like progesterone can cause cramping, naseau, and constipation. For these reasons, I like to attribute any symptoms I am having to the medications to keep me from going crazy during the 2ww. There was a girl on here a week or two ago, who tested too early, got a false positive, but thankfully got a real positive a few days later. Everyone processes the trigger differently, so while mine was out of my system by now on your time line, no one will be able to tell you for sure. So, if you test and get a positive now, you may just experience more stress and heartache. For that reason, I would recommend blaming everything on the hormones and trying to hold out as much as possible (much easier said than done, I know!). The trigger should be out for sure on 9/2, which is 14 days past trigger.

Best of luck to you, and I hope you get your BFP!

  • Thank you so much! I was really going to give in to testing but I will wait. I dnt want to get a false positive, and have to give my husband bad news when he goes for deployment. Thank you!!!!!
  • We have been TTC for over 2 years now with no luck. About a year with nothing I bought Ovulation strips off ebay and went 3 mths with no postive. Decided to talk to my Dr because I knew something else had to be wrong. My right ovary and tube was removed when I was 16. I had a UFE to remove fibroids in 2011. She run all the blood work to see what could be wrong. Progesterone test said I wasn't ovulating, so she had me do the clomid challenge. Because I had the UFE she wanted me to talk a RE. Started the RE November of last year and because it was so close to the end of the year husband and I decided to wait till January to do all the test. HSG showed my left tube is open with no problems. He did find more fibroids or polyps and wanted to do a hysterscopy to try to remove them. He found them to be polyps and was able to remove them and said my uterus was heart shaped so he cleaned that up. After all was healed he started me on 5mg of Femara cycle days 3-7 and a Noveral trigger shot if my follicles were mature with timed intercourse. Tried this for 3 cycles but the 2nd cycle was a bust because my period started back. For the 4th and 5th cycle he upped the Femara to 7.5mg and noveral trigger shot. All the cycles my follicles responded great. Even had a follicle on the right side which surprised me but he said there must be a remnite of the ovary to produce the follice. But still no luck. So he moved us onto IUI. Had my first IUI Aug 24th. I take progesterone test in the morning and a home test Labor day. Good luck to those still waiting on BFPs and waiting to start a new cycle
  • I had polyps removed also, I had a huge one that was actually blocking my left fallopian tube! Glad that they can go in and check all these things, in a way gives me a little bit of hope! Good luck to you!!! Hope you get some good news soon!!!
  • Thanks.  Good luck to you too

  • I too was on femara 10mg with no luck and am now on to clomid (which really isn't much different) but my OB/GYN said basically our next step is injectables with IUI or IVF. Good luck ladies!
