Add me to another mama who wishes she could stay home with her kid!!! We had DD on a 10 day regiment of amoxicilin for a massive double ear infection, her last day on that was Thursday. She's been a little crankier/more temperamental than usual (though her crankiness is still mild compared to many other 2 year olds, her cousin included...) and has had some trouble sleeping (waking up crying at least once a night, though one night it was 6x in a matter of 2.5 hours...thank goodness a hug and a short rock in the glider and she lays back down fine). We just felt something was still "off", so following our parental instinct we took her back to the doctor yesterday. She has apparently inherited her dad's side of the family's immunity to amoxicilin because there was almost no change to the double infection :'( On the good side, that means her crankiness was not for nothing! But on the bad side, that meant she had to have the first of two huge shots of another antibiotic, that is a deep muscle shot and makes her so sore, she's limping around and its so sad! She is trying really hard to be in a good mood and keep her spirits up, she is such a tough little cookie! Last night she was snuggling with me, which she never does, reading several books, it was so nice! I told her teacher at preschool this morning that she would need a little extra TLC, and she burst into tears and tried to climb over the gate to get to me when I had to leave her. Talk about pulling on mama's heart strings...5.5 hours until I can go get her...

  • @yodiggity It seriously broke my heart :'( This was after she ran (hobbled) across the room after me crying when I went to hang her backpack on her hook, so I hugged her and held her for a minute, then had to scramble out of the room (due to an early meeting ugh), and she threw herself on the floor and THEN tried to climb the gate...I seriously hate that I have to work today. She normally goes through drop off fine, but with her not feeling 100% I know she just wants mommy and daddy...

I'm not a fan of the selfie where the woman is leaning over just so her boobs fall out... And then they complain that they only get comments about their chest.

Or the "I'm actually just showing off my jewelry" selfie.
Does it count if I take those kind of selfies but only send them to the hubby?

That's 100% ok. I do that too. Anything pretty much with cleavage is a DH exclusive that gets deleted on my phone after I send it.

Because they don't know there's a "basics to accentuate" option. It's just caked on or none, and none beats clown any day ;)

  • I even hate that "selfie" is a word. Pisses me off. Selfies are lame and the only time I take them is when my husband and I are on the summit of a mountain we just climbed and now Wednesdays apparently. I didn't even know how to take a picture of myself with my phone until like 3 or 4 weeks ago, which is part of why I didn't participate in HBBD that whole time. I still suck at it.
  • @jonesl12 YIKES hope you feel better soon, glad LO is doing well!!! I had to get biweekly NSTs with DD1 as per my perinatologists orders (despite being "cleared" for the potential marker) and I didn't like it. I heard all these flowery stories of women who got to relax and rest during theirs, but at my office they made me hold a clicker and press the button every time I felt her move...which was a lot...so there wasn't a whole lot of relaxing happening...

  • I had my first dream about giving birth last night... But the baby was too early, so I just put it back in and went about my business.
In other news, there was a house fire in the area last night, and my poor kids are traumatized by the smell. Even my three year old, who probably doesn't know why he's thinking about it, told me the story of the night our house burned down this morning.

The office I worked at a few years ago used that clicker too. Here at the hospital they handed me some food ( graham crackers and peanut butter ) and told me to just relax.
That clicker is annoying and one time I set a girl up for her NST and forgot to attach the clicker to the computer so she was hitting it and nothing registered for 1/2 hr. I never ever made that mistake again.  :#

I think it's also because they are tired of how long it takes for their ladies to get ready. And/or hate the drama of not being able to just run out to coffee or the store or anywhere with them until they have their 'face on.'

Oh for crying out loud, how in the world did a stupid YouTube tutorial for the newborn hold with a baby wrap just make me get all teary and emotional? Like, come ON there are far more heart warming or emotional things than a cheesy video showing how to tuck a baby into wrap with corny circus music going on in the background!
    https://www.boba.com/support/boba-wrap/the-newborn-hold

ETA, if I didn't know better I'd swear the mom in this tutorial was my OB. She seriously looks identical to the doctor who delivered DD1 (I love love love that woman, I already told her I hope she is on call to deliver this one).

I have to start weekly NST monitoring with the clicker. I had my first yesterday morning and I thought I'd get a nap in since I was in a recliner but I had to click the stupid button over and over. Plus, even if I didn't, baby girl was kicking the crap out of the monitor like it was a mic test.

@jonesl12 I hope everything is ok now!

How do you like the wrap? I ended up getting the Solly wrap as the fabric is lighter than other wraps (thinking of summer here...). I also cannot wait to put my little one in there, instead of the carton of coconut milk I was practicing with. :D

@emgee27 Most of the men that I'm talking about are ones who say that they like a woman with minimal/no make up AND THEN start dating a woman who wears a ton of it. If they said it afterwards, then I get why they're making a jab at their SO for taking a million years to get ready, but before they start dating/living with them? It takes me 5 minutes to put on make up. Quick tight lined eyeliner, mascara, lotion, sweep of foundation, and a setting powder. Done. Maybe Chapstick if my lips are chapped. One of my friends takes a minimum of about an hour to do her make up and she looks caked and fake.

I keep reading about hospital tours, and got curious about something: since you pick the hospital where you will be delivering, does your doctor or a colleague in his/her practice go to whatever hospital you choose to deliver your baby, or does a doctor who works at that specific hospital and who is on call that day delivers?

No hospital tours here. Basically your OB delivers at hospital X, so you're going to hospital X where either your doctor or a colleague from his/her practice will deliver your baby.
I still had a choice of hospitals though - when I was discharged from the fertility clinic and they needed to refer me to a regular OB, they asked if I had a preference of hospitals, so they could refer me to a doctor that delivers in that particular hospital. I picked the hospital that is directly attached to the heart hospital where I work (and closest to my house) for obvious reasons. :) But there is no touring, nothing (which I don't mind BTW, since I have basically lived in hospitals for the past 17 years of my life :D )
  • @thaisac1 With my current health insurance, it's whatever doctor is on staff is the one delivering your baby. My OB doesn't go to any hospitals and just stays in her clinic. With my new insurance that kicks in March 1st, it's whatever doctor is in rotation, which could potentially be your doctor. I'm not seeing a specific doctor since I'm so far along, so the chance of having a doctor that I've had an appointment with is highly likely.

  • @thaisac1 I think I'm actually going to love it!!!! I looked into the Solly wrap, but you can't order it from Amazon, only their site, so their prices stand. I was able to get my Boba, brand new out of box, for only $23 including shipping from eBay! Ridiculous! Plus, its purple :) It was a lot easier to put on than I thought, and since it has a weight capacity of 36 lbs, I can still put my 2+ year old in it! She's a peanut at 27 lbs. I didn't think she'd want to, but when I stuck her in it to try out yesterday, she gave me this sweet shy smile and snuggled right up to me  o:)<3o:)

Same here. The doctors are contracted out of specific hospitals. I changed from the gyno I've used since I was 15 because I didn't like the hospital she's contracted through (she had recently moved practices and I was planning to follow before I got knocked up). So I switched to a doctor who delivers out of the hospital I want to deliver at, plus it's much closer to my house. A 10 minute drive (literally 2 turns) vs 45+ minute drive. And the hospital is rated higher and newer.

We did a tour over the weekend and while it wasn't necessary, it did make me feel better by answering a lot of unknowns and got me excited!

We have one hospital in our county that has a maternity ward, so that limited me a good bit ;) I'm already planning to use the birthing center ten minutes away from said hospital for next time though.
  • I'm really happy that LO is going to be born in the same hospital as DS. I loved that hospital.

My HR person just told me that I look like I've been losing weight. That's not usually what you tell a pregnant woman... I've gotten used to comments about me being huge.

  • I have a hospital in my town but didn't want to deliver there.  So when I chose a Gyno, I made sure to choose one I would be happy with and comfortable with the hospital they deliver at.  My other decision was based on number of OBs in the practice.  I didn't want a carousal of choices.  It's worth the 45 minute drive for me though.

This is my situation as well. I'm seeing a midwives practice at a very large, university hospital which is where I wanted to deliver. (Which is also my alma mater, which is kinda funny!)  I see the 5 midwives in rotation and one of them will be on-call at the hospital whenever I go in. Although they practice out of 2 offices (one that is physically where the hospital is, and one that is just a office/clinic center in a nearby city) everyone delivers at the same hospital.  I couldn't be a part of this midwives group and choose to deliver at another hospital, I'd have to find a group/doctor contracted with said hospital.

I'm the same as you, I take about 5-10 minutes (tinted moisturizer, curl lashes, apply mascara, a little eyebrow pencil, brush eyebrows, blush and done. Maybe chapstick or whatever gloss is in my purse.)  I also have friends who take an hour with makeup and it's so much makeup!   I can see the layer of it on their face, but to each their own, I guess.  Maybe it's a superficial thing with guys that they think with all the makeup their girl looks more put together and hot.

I actually have the exact opposit with my fiancé. He likes girls who wear a lot of make up, and does their hair all ridiculously (read as normal) I am NOT that chick at all. I've worn make up three times within the past year, and rarely brush my hair... Takes me less time to get ready to go somewhere than him! It used to bother him because his ex was one of those "I'm going across the street to the mail box and someone I know might see me!" Type of girls, and I just don't give a crap. Legitimately, I look this way because I am a human person. If you think I'm beautiful only when I am covered/edited, you don't really think I'm beautiful.

DH keeps telling me that there's almost no difference between my face with and without make up. I just brighten my eyes up a bit since they are rather narrow and cover up my permanent under eye circles. I'll wear lipstick or eye shadow on special occasions, but that's about it. Don't ask me to do a cat eye or whatever they're called. I won't be able to do it. I prefer tight lining my eyeliner because it looks way more natural.

I only do the top lid and not the bottom. My sister always looks caked on and it's the wrong shade... I really want to tell her but I don't think she'd listen.

  • @fbanke42 tightlining looks so nice on people and I can't for the life of me do it. I end up with raccoon eyes within 10 min, no matter what waterproof liner I've used. I can barely keep it raccoon-free if I line the top lid normally.
