Purple line for dialation?

So I posted yesterday that my Dr made me check my own cervix. I ended up going to the hospital for them to see what was up anyways because I didn't trust myself. I was "a good 3cm" at 10 last night. This morning I woke up and found you can check dialation from a purple line on your butt crack. I have a 2-2.5 inch line which is between 5-6 cm. I wanted to know if anyone goes by this and how accurate it is?

I don't know how to check it myself, but my doula uses it and says it's more accurate than internal checks!

I've never heard of this but the only purple lines on my butt are stretch marks lol

I haven't dilated at all yet which goes along with not having a purple line. I plan on using it!

How does it read? Is it every cm is a cm or is it a different measurement?

It's a line that can be found in your butt crack lol. You're gonna have to spread your cheeks and check in the mirror. When it reaches the coccyx or the top of your butt crack you're 10 cm. it starts at the anus when dilation starts.

Purple line is here but damn I must be ready to push! Lmao.. SO was laughing as we checked. Maybe mine never changed back from other pregnancies.

@kanga915, this is is a medical one. A lot of midwives use this rather than internal cervical checks while a woman is in labor.... Less invasive, no pain and no risk of infection. Sounds crazy, but it is accurate.

Hahaha I'm crying. This is real?!? Or is it a horrible prank played upon very pregnant women who will do anything for a hint that labor may be around the corner?? I mean OBVIOUSLY I have to go check now, but I feel like any resulting medical bills from injuries sustained during said check need to be covered Haha

Yes it is real. I was never checked internally my last birth. The midwife would just check that line while I was kneeling in the birth pool. She knew I was complete and told me to push whenever I felt the urge to do so just by watching me and the line. It's refreshing to have someone feel it is unnecessary to check internally when I'm already in so much pain. If there was something wrong obviously internal becomes necessary but you KWIM.

Well I asked my bf to look for my purple line n he said "there's just ur ass**** there I don't see no purple line!" We literally pee ourselves with this damn purple line!!!! )

@Growingapepper , it's described like someone took a purple sharpie and colored up your crack. It's pretty dark and distinctive. I think you would be able to tell the difference between normal and this

I just asked my naturalist/chiropractor friend and she said it is typically an old wives tale on how dilated you are...and drs/midwives know how far without checking internally by shape and softness of surrounding areas and also just looking from experience.

I am still wondering if there's a purple line back there though!!! Lol!! :-?

Going by the purple line, I should be pushing a baby out right now. I guess it doesn't go away after the first and second births.. :-/

This is the best thread ever! Crying from laughing so hard! Had to have my husband read it because I couldn't talk from laughing. He is going to be the purple line checker! I can't see my V as I'm now a big beach ball. Will have to bend over and spread the cheeks for him to get a good look.
