Cord around neck

went for a fun 3d ultrasound yesterday and tonight I was showing pics to my mom and she pointed out that the cord may be around neck. Called L&D And heard "if it is there is nothing we can do at this point and it may get loose itself" anyone else have this?

Re: Cord around neck

  • 1. I've read is is very common and odds of it mattering are very low. 2. Remember your baby is not breathing yet so he is not choking. 3.im sorry but Its rude as hell that she made you worry by pointing that out to you.

  • Baby isn't breathing through the cord so even if they are born with it around their neck it's easily slipped off once their head pops out. It's not as worrisome as you would be lead to believe. A bigger worry is if the cord is in a tight knot- which is rather hard to achieve.
  • DS1 had his cord wrapped around once and DS2 had a double nuchal cord (wrapped around twice) AND a true knot in his cord and he was perfectly healthy. That's odd that she could even tell! I got bi-weekly ultrasounds for the last 6 weeks of my pregnancy, including one the day before he was born and everyone was surprised! Try not to worry, it's pretty common according to my midwife (minus the true knot part).

  • Mine is wearing his like a scarf. I was born with mine around my neck twice, it's quite common.
  • One - it's common.
And Two- is your mom a trained tech?
Could she for sure tell it was all the way around the neck? If your doctor or the tech didn't say anything do not worry.
At our anatomy scan we could see the cord near the neck and the tech made sure to point out that while it was positioned near there it was not around the neck. Only a trained doctor can tell you that.

Mine was wrapped around my neck when I was born. DD2 the doctor was shocked when she was born and it was around her neck. She showed no signs of distress. It happens all the time. I also wouldn't worry unless your Dr or tech said something.
  • My first son had his wrapped around his neck twice. They found out when his head was delivered. The only thing that was scary was when his head delivered his vitals dropped, this just ment that they had to cut the cord off his neck since it was so tight. They had me give one good push and littered ripped him out if me. No tears outside just inside. They had to suction him a bit and give home some oxygen. But overall he was just fine!!! As ️mommy I'll be honest it seemed scary but I wasn't to worried about it because they still laid him on my chest as they tended to the cord, I made eye contact with him and new he was ok :) his vitals were fine up until the last few moments coming out.
  • DS1 had a triple nuchal cord. The midwife said this was almost unheard of and he was still fine!! It got a little scarey as he came out but that's bc they were worried it was too short and that was only as he was delivered. In other words please don't stress about that! It could also just look that way if it's in front of babies neck bc of the angle, etc
