Stethoscope!

I have a stethoscope back from when I was a CNA at a nursing home and I wanted to check BP the old fashioned way since our machines were squirrely.

My Ovia app says I might now be able to be able to hear baby with a stethoscope (18 weeks 2 d)!!! Has anyone else tried this? I think it's so cool!!!

Re: Stethoscope!

  • This is how I listened to my first babies heart beat. I worked at a doctors office and the nurses and I would do it all the time.

  • I tried at 20 weeks and found it the third time I tried with my cousins help (she's and RN). I have found it once since then, but it's sooo faint. Possibly the best thing was last night when I was looking for it and it hit it when I pushed down. The *tap* was too neat!!
  • I will have to try this at work tomorrow!

Y'all are so lucky!! I haven't been able to find it yet. But I also have no idea really how to do it. I'm only good for checking heartbeats ;)
I'm letting hubby play with it for now so he can bond with baby :)
  • I've been trying like every other week at work but I haven't heard anything yet.

  • I'd read that when I was pregnant with DS and asked my dr. about it. He said you really can't hear anything with a regular stethoscope. Now that @Monilee1017 said it worked for her I'm wondering if he was just saying that so I wouldn't freak out if I tried and didn't hear anything? I'm curious to hear if it works for others. My sister is a RN and has a very nice stethoscope so we'll have to try again this pregnancy!
  • @MrsB915 he probably just meant in terms of quality. I'm sure your sisters would be fine! Just keep in mind it's not a Doppler so if you don't find anything then don't panic!
  • I can't remember how far along I was when we first heard. We were always messing around. I worked at an office where one of the the specialties was breast cancer so the doctors would to ultrasounds too. But the ones they use on breasts aren't as strong so we couldn't always find the baby if it wasn't where we needed it to be.

  • I think it's cool you were able to hear your babys HB through a stethoscope ! I tried this at 20 weeks and I couldn't hear anything. I want to try again later when I'm further along I think Google says you can hear it after 24 weeks so I'll give it a go then :)
