30 weeks and less movement...

I've already called my doctor and waiting for a return phone call. That being said, has any one else noticed a decline in movement? My belly is so tight and I'm wondering if its stretching and the baby growing. I've been freaking out most of the night because I realized I haven't felt him move like he normally does. I'll get an occasional kick or roll but its very light and subtle.  I tried laying on my side for two hours after drinking something sweet and I got nothing. Its happened before and I guess it was a lazy day, but I thought once you got in the third trimester those kicks and jabs should be more noticeable. Just need some reassurance...

Re: 30 weeks and less movement...

  • Me too! My doc said he's more rolling now cause he's so big so you won't feel the kicks and jabs like usual, but I went in and did a monitor test and he's was moving alot and I couldn't feel it, I felt cheated but glad to hear he's still moving now I'm 31 weeks and I feel him alot now, I notice it more when I lay down on my left side. I'm sure everything is fine :)

  • Thanks! Within minutes of typing this he started rolling around! Sweet relief :)
  • My movement 'changed' around then. More rolling. I'm at 34 weeks now on a get hands and feet dragging across my belly. It's awesome!
  • Experiencing the same, also 30 weeks. Just assumed baby is running out of room! Let us know what the doc says :)

i feel like that's always the way. sometimes i'll have a few hours where the movements are less frequent or faint and then after i panic he starts kickboxing in there! i am 34 weeks so ahead of you but at this point i can also wake him up and/or get him to respond by poking him a bit as well. makes me feel so much better :)
  • Same thing happened to me at 28 weeks... Didn't feel him move for about 4 hrs or so. Of course I freaked out, but it was an isolated incident. He moved as usual the next day. I guess there are days they don't move as much just like us!
  • I'm 34 weeks and yesterday he barely moved at all! But every time I did kick counts he was reaching the amount he needed to. I think baby's have lazy days too; I had a crazy weekend and he never stopped moving so I guess he was worn out too. This morning he's all over the place again. :)
  • Yes, this makes sense just like PP's have said.  I noticed decreased punches/kicks that can be felt on the outside.  I feel more "inside" rolling and shifting.

  • Same here! I fell a few weeks ago and had to go in for monitoring. I was amazed to learn about how much baby is moving without my even feeling it! Glad all is well with you. I'm convinced they sit right on our "panic buttons" in there sometimes.
  • Babies also have patterns of movement. Like I noticed that baby girl moves when I first get up in the morning, again around 11ish, 4ish and before I go to bed. Also at like 3 am or whenever I get up to go pee in the middle of the night. Now that I am almost 35 weeks I've noticed her movements are more like rolls or her pushing against my stomach. She doesn't really kick me but will slide her legs into my ribs. I also usually feel her hands down low and they feel more like little bumps.
  • I'm 31 weeks and have noticed that DS's movements have changed. He has lazy days, but still makes kick counts. Less kicks and more like @MandahGirly said, rolls and pushing. He's transverse and likes to push his feet into my left side.
  • I was starting to feel movement around bedtime every night. Until I hit about 29-30 weeks. She wasn't moving as much. I was feeling some pitter patter but not the usual movement. Now, I am 32 weeks and she moves what seems like all day. Sometimes she kicks or moves so hard that I am so jostled and become out of breath.

This is me. He doesn't kick as swiftly anymore but it is startling at times. It's more like a full stretch out of the leg and yowch!...like he's trying to make a break for it! Sometimes, it feels like the scene from Alien.  :-S

I noticed fewer kicks last week right before I hit 31 weeks. I'm still feeling tons of rolls though. Every now and then he'll manage to give me a big kick and it's scares me! Haha!

Last night I was watching my stomach and I could see him moving back and forth, but I couldn't really feel it.
  • My DH's mom told me that he was a little stinker and put his feet in her side for almost a whole day and refused to move them no matter how much she rolled her fingers or palms over them.
One of the women at my work said she had a similar thing happen to her as well.
  • So it's happened to you too?! I thought I was just seeing things when I say my belly move but didn't feel anything.
  • I think it may have something to do with my anterior placenta. It was a while before I started feeling movements at first and I read it was because of that. I just assume there's a certain place where I won't feel movement. I don't think you're seeing things though! I know I'm definitely not. They're pretty dramatic at times. :)
  • I'm glad you have some reassurance! Just to give you an extra boost, my OB just told me to expect more subtle movement now rather than kicks and jabs as much since baby boy is limited on space.

  • This happened to me as well on Saturday. Hardly any movement all day, even was at a wedding dancing and had soda and nothing until later when I got home and wasn't a lot. I didn't call doctor Bc I felt a little when going to bed, but wasnt nearly the movement of the past few days prior. It's hard to put a threshold on when to call or go in. I think if I don't feel anyy movement within a whole am to bedtime I would maybe call or the next am. But plan to ask my doc this week what she thinks. If I felt a little something I would prob be reassured with that as PP's said, I think they may be starting to slow down once bigger.
  • Thanks y'all! I found out he loves Starburst lol! After eating about three he was doing somersaults in there. My doctor told me as long as I was getting movement I should be fine but going in for a check up tomorrow morning because he's not moving a lot this morning. I'm going on vacation this week and just need to hear his heart beat. I'm glad I'm not the only one :)
  • Any other CA ladies? I'm in southern CA and sometimes he jostles me so abruptly for a second I think it's an earthquake. Seriously.
  • I have had moments of panic wondering to myself why she hasn't kicked... And as I would think it she would do it! Then I think "aw we're connected by thoughts too!" lol

Keep us posted on what your doctor says. I'm sure everything is fine, but it's always a good idea to follow that motherly instinct that's kicking into highgear!
  • I experienced the same thing around that time! I will be 35 weeks tomorrow, and now she is so big that I can at least see the movements if I don't feel them. I don't always feel them, I think because I have gotten so used to her moving around. I even stopped doing the kick counts now, because when she is awake, she is extremely active.
  • I have experienced this quite often, about every other week. I am still always able to get daily kick counts, but the total movement I feel sometimes drastically drops. I went in for monitoring a few weeks ago and everything was perfect. I have learned that it's just a pattern of hers and have come to expect it. I still get nervous and do kick counts at least twice a day to calm myself but overall I try not to worry since I'm still feeling movements. Thankfully we all only have a few more weeks of the constant worrying (at least about kicks
  • I've been semi-panicking today for this very reason. It doesn't help that I'm just getting back into a work routine with teaching, so I think baby's patterns are thrown off by my new levels and times of activity. I don't have a lot of "usually" to go off of, because it's only a week into the school year, but I didn't feel anything on my drive to work today. Slight movements throughout the day, like super subtle.

Now I'm at a point where I can sit still for awhile, and I'm feeling some rolls, but nothing like usual. I've been wondering for awhile today if I need to call the doctor. Once I get home, I'll try the laying down trick after a glass of water or juice and see what happens.
  • @leighann1 it has been the same with me. I cried all through my prep hour last thursday because I hardly felt him. He seems to be getting settled into my new routine, though. I've been feeling him so much more the past couple days.
  • Back from vacation and just now getting to see these posts! Went in for a quick check up before heading out and he had a heart beat of 155. Perfectly healthy. I did a lot of walking this weekend and he seemed to respond to that. Kicked, rolled, punched all weekend. Then yesterday, nothing lol I think it has a lot to do with my activity. If I'm up and moving, he seems to do the same. This morning he's back to kicking now that I'm at work. The nurse told me that around this time his movements will be subtle. I will say last night, I was going to bed and I guess he didn't like how I was laying, and he punched and kicked at the same time. I was so shocked and holy cow!! Ouch! Strangely I was able to sleep very peacefully after that :)
