Gut Candida

I have just learned that I have candida. The good bacteria in my stomach is being wiped out and instead I have an influx of bad bacteria. I have been trying to take a probiotic but everything I read says that until the bad bacteria is erraticated then the probiotic is essentially useless. The Candida is making me extra neasous, bloated, fatigued and achey. Basically I am suffering normal preg symptoms but times two in intensity. The Candida diet is off limits for pregnant women and so I was just wondering if there is anyone on here that is also suffering from Candida?

I have had Candida, but not during pregnancy that I know of. The full candida diet would be off limits, yes, but could you try cutting out processed sugars, natural sweeteners like honey etc and simple carbs like white bread, pastas etc? Or at least cutting down? Candida loves sugar so the less you feed it, the less it can grow and probiotics may be able to take hold and help.

  • Thank you. I will try to cut out sugar. I don't drink soda or other sugary drinks but I do eat a lot of fruit which I know has tons of sugar. It is also hard to cut out carbs! I feel like this is going to be an impossible task! Thanks for the advice though.
  • No problem. It might be worth doing some research or buying some books. I will attach the one I really liked. Just be smart about it while you're pregnant, obviously eating fruit is important while pregnant but some fruits have a very high sugar content so should maybe be cut out or limited. There are lots of great Candida websites that will have tons of info and then modify so that baby can still get proper nutrients.
  • Thanks I will order this!
  • Candida is not a medical diagnosis and is being used by naturopath to pedal random shit.

You have good and bad bacteria, you have yeast (where the name candida comes from)... you need all of these in balance except the bad bacteria. If you want to fix it stay away from antibacterials and antifungal as they cause wipe out and for one group to get too much control. Eat healthy bacteria like in probiotic foods ( yoghut, sauerkraut, kimchi, or a reputable probiotic).... cut back on sugar and eat safe starches to keep the yeast there but not in an overgrowth.

And never take some ransom essential oils or supplements while pregnant unless your OB knows exactly what is going on.

  • Coconut oil kills yeast in your body.  Do some research on that and follow the guidelines as consuming too much at the beginning can cause so much yeast die-off that you can feel ill.  Also, follow what other posters have said in regards to sugars, yeast, etc.

Killing off bad bacteria through your diet takes a very long time. Usually, doctors suggest an antibiotic to kill off the bacteria and then going on a probiotic to replenish the good. Taking a probiotic at this point, won't help.

Edited to add that this is a controversial diagnosis and you may want another opinion.

    Pregnancy Ticker
  • I live in Venezuela so I have resorted to reading what I can find online and I see that it is not a widely accepted medical condition. I also see that none of the natural aides are safe during pregnancy and it also seems that the Candida diet is not reccomended during pregnancy since it really wants you to cut out all carbs and fruits. I live in Venezuela and they love to over prescribe here so I am trying to just cope with my symptoms and hope that when I am back in the US over Christmas I can get some help.
