Irritation from wearing panty liners, HELP! (TMI)

I am developing some kind of rash just above and around my labia where the panty liner sits. It can be pretty itchy at times. I have never had an issue with these panty liners but I've also never had to wear them every day for several days. I just hate having to change my underwear all the time because they are wet. I don't wear the liners at night and it helps to air it out but it's getting so irritating. Anyone else having this issue????

  • Hmm no but maybe try switching brands? Buy an organic option at a health food store? It's probably a chemical or plastic lining causing the irritation.

  • I hope your not developing a yeast infection from wearing the liners. My doc said cotton undies were the best and to change them if I felt uncomfortable. I asked her about liners and she said wearing them too often can create a bad environment allowing yeast to grow. I would change brands immediately but reconsider wearing them daily.
  • I'm treating right now for a yeast infection and wearing pads to protect against leaking from the medicine and I like it so much better than panty liners! For one they are bigger and absorb more. Just an idea until the rash goes away.
  • Yes. Only I don't itch; it's more of a chafing/hurt rash. So I've been wearing panty liners only during the work day. I wear loose shorts or pants with no panties as soon as I get home and I powder my lady bits with Gold Bond to keep the area dry. I don't know if that will work for you, but I think it was the moisture/chafing effect for me.
  • I know how you're feeling. It's quite uncomfortable. You seem to be doing everything right, though. Maybe a new brand?

Yes try an all natural brand. I am allergic to the synthetic fibres in most pads and pretty much all tampons *fun times* so I know exactly what you're talking about. I personally am not using anything right now and just deal but I have had moderate success with kotex natural brands and have had a lot of success with 100% natural brands found at organic/ natural grocers in the past.

ETA: the 100% natural ones don't hold up like other pads -from what I've used-. I think the synthetic fibres are what keeps most pads together- so if they don't normally bother you I wouldn't use them post partum unless you HAVE to. They need to be changed often because they fall apart otherwise.
  • I also have had discomfort from having to wear them constantly.
  • I'd try a natural fiber brand like Natracare or Natys, you could just be more sensitive these days.

Thanks for all the helpful input ladies. I am going to try and not wear them as much during the day. It seems like I have the most discharge in the mornings when I am first up and around so maybe I will wear them for a few hours in the morning just to get thru that. It does make sense that its not getting enough air down there and can be the perfect spot for bacteria to form. Seems like everything is so wet all the time - its annoying! I just want to feel fresh and clean!! I have used baby powder at night before I go to bed and that seems to help a lot as well. I bought some pads today that are ultra thin, they are Kotex in a black box as I have heard ladies say those help and have a dri-wick liner. I need SOME relief. OH and i'm going to try and take a warm bath tonight to ease some of the soreness.

Only 25 days to go - DD: Sept 19.
