C-sections

Pregnancy after C section

How long did your OB tell you to wait to get pregnant again after your c section?

My doctor told us to wait a year but we don't want to. We had our son via emergency c section in July and we want to start trying around February 2016. I dont know if vbac is going to be an option so I am prepared for another c section with our next pregnancy.

Re: Pregnancy after C section

  • My OB said 6 months absolutely minimum but 12 months would be better. I got pregnant when #1 was 8.5 months.

  • They suggested 18 months minimum between pregnancies for me if I want to VBAC
  • Mine never said anything about waiting, aside from waiting for the ok to have sex after section

  • If you want to do vbac I would wait until a year to try. My oldest was 8 months when we got pregnant this time, we were due 18 months to the day apart. Since it was so close my doctor advised against vbac. So if vbac isn't important to you I'd say trying in February would be ok!!!

  • Ask your dr about their rules for a VBAC. I was allowed to try for a VBAC with my kids that were 17 months apart.

I am not too worried about a VBAC. I think after my first labor and delivery experience a VBAC makes me nervous..

Why does it make you nervous?

The way my doctor explained it was that since my first labor was so long and laboring (20 hours) resulting in a c section she made it seem like vbac would be pointless. She also said that my current c section incision area could be complicated if I tried vbac too soon. I don'tt want any complications trying vbac to end up w a c section again.
