Serious 15 week old baby or....

So my baby still smiles only a few times a day and occasionally giggles at the ceiling fan. She coos a few times a day. She also can't hold her head up for more than a few seconds. She also doesn't seem too incredibly interested in faces other than her reflection. Her pediatrician says she is delayed but hasn't offered any advice other than we wait things out. We have a pediatric neurology and early intervention appointment next week but I just wanted to see if anyone is or was on the same boat? I am a SAHM and spend so much of my time trying to improve her skills and only notice a slight improvement within the past couple of weeks. It's so exhausting. Meanwhile I have met a handful of babies that are already rolling, laughing and looking very interactive. Everyone who meets my baby always ask if she's tired. It's so depressing to tell them that this is her true personality so I usually just lie rather than get into specifics. When strangers try to interact with her, her reaction is still that of a 2 month old (even though she is almost 4 months) - she stares off into space.

  • If your pediatrician isn't overly concerned, I wouldn't get yourself worried yet. Every baby develops at their own pace. It's hard not to compare to others but try to not get yourself crazy over milestones at these early stages.

  • My oldest nephew was a serious baby! He would only smile when he's falling asleep and was not very social until he was much older, he is 13 years old now and he is a very kind and funny young man. I hope it's not but a unique personality, best of luck
  • I know it'd troubling when you're comparing your baby to others who have started learning new skills but don't worry too much. If you Google when do babies roll over, many sources say around 4 months is average but some don't until 6 months. Same goes with laughing. My babe is over 3 months and hasn't rolled or had a real laugh yet if it makes you feel any better.

My first kid was the same, he didnt roll, smile or giggle until after 4m, before that he'd squeal with excitement sometimes....tummy time wasn't fruitful and he loved my face, but nobody elses. Then all of a sudden he was crawling at 5m, walking at 9, and knew/said everything a preschooler should before 2...minus the fine motor skills.
  • My DD is very serious. She smiles but makes you really work for it. It's hard not to compare her to her twin bro who is all smiles & laughs all day long. But I have been informed that I was a very serious baby, too, so I'm thinking/hoping she just takes after me.
