Ring sizing

I just got engaged and I'm pregnant with my first. I need to size my engagement ring down (it is way too big) and I am TERRIFIED I will size it and then it won't fit after my pregnancy. It won't do well being sized over and over because of the style. This will not be our only child. Anyone with experience on this? What did you do? Thanks

Re: Ring sizing

  • I had both my wedding and engagement rings sized down a half size a few months before I got pregnant with DS. I was able to wear them comfortably throughout my pregnancy and had no trouble getting them back on after.

I was more worried about it falling off and losing it if I did t resize than I was it not fitting post baby.

  • I would recommend getting it sized to fit now. Worst case scenario you have some pregnancy swelling and have to wear it on a necklace for the last few months. You gain and then lose a shocking amount of water weight in pregnancy between increased blood and amniotic fluid.

  • Thanks guys, I guess I am unreasonably worried about having permanent sausage fingers, when I shouldn't be!
  • I was about four months pregnant when I got engaged, and had the ring sized to what was then my current size, since I hadn't had any puffy hand problems yet. It was snug the last few weeks, but wearable. I actually had to have it sized down rather a bit when she was about six months old... I lost a ton of weight after that pregnancy, which I could not have foreseen (it wasn't intentional).

    I resized it again. NBD.

  • I would resize it because like PP said you can always wear on a chain around your neck later in pregnancy it will likely fit after you give birth and lose the water weight. If you don't want to do that I know you can pick up these little plastic pieces to put on the underside of the ring. I think they're called spacers, and you can pick them up at walmart in the jewelry section. I used them when DH gave me a promise ring because we didn't have time to resize it since we were about to go out of town and I wanted to take the ring with me so I got them. They worked pretty well until we got back and I could get it resized.
