I feel I must be doing something wrong

My son turned 3 months old as of last Saturday (8/15/15) and he still sleeps in a Rock N Play in my room. He sleeps so soundly in it too. If I try to put him in his crib, he will sleep for maybe 30 minutes to an hour and then he's awake again. He does not like to be swaddled. He sleeps with his arms over his head. I feel like he should be able to sleep in his crib by now. Believe me, I'm fine with him sleeping next to me in the Rock N Play but I know that I need start the process of getting him to sleep in the crib before he out grows the Rock N Play. Anyone have any suggestions or words of encouragement? Am I doing something wrong??

  • My baby does the exact same thing! She cannot sleep in her crib... I don't think there is anything wrong. Every baby is different and does things on a different schedule. I have no doubt that she will eventually sleep in her crib and then I will miss her!
  • We only have a one bedroom apartment so at 11 weeks she is still sleeping in the rock n play. She will be moving up to a pack play in our room but no moves have been made to do so yet! I think secretly it's because daddy likes having her sleep next to his side of the bed.

  • We are in same boat..I've been worried about him getting stressed out and sids so I've been easy on him. I am Pulling an all nighters the entire weekend.. My hubby and mom will watch him if need be during day. I'm going to try and break him down.. Ill let you know what works
  • I'm in the same boat. I moved the pack in play in our room because the crib was too big. His room is on the other side of the house and I'm just not comfortable putting him in there by hisself yet. Several time I have tried putting him in his pack n play and he gets up 30 minutes later screaming. I rock him back to sleep and then 30 minutes later he's back awake. Then we end up in the RnP and he sleeps all night. I'm off this weekend so I'm gonna try to work on it again.
  • I'm in the same boat and I decided that she will let me know when she's ready.. I seen that she was tired not angry the other day so I put her in her crib and she straight away wanted to get out but then u stroked her head and played lullabies then she was happy so I started kind of rocking her where she was then she eventually fell asleep but had to hold my hand if I even left the room she would tell out so I had to come back and hold her hand I decided to just sit next to the crib holding hands till she slept long enough hoping she would at least learn to trust it
  • I was in the exact same boat, but finally my LO was big enough for the magic Merlin suit. It looks really weird like a snow suit, but she now sleeps in her crib pretty well. Seriously worth a try!
  • I have this issue but with naps. My son sleeps in the pack n play next to my bed just fine at night, but he won't take naps anywhere but in his swing or in the car. Sometimes on my lap. But if I lay him down on a flat surface he won't sleep.

This describes DD completely! We started in a pack n play from the beginning. She transitioned to crib really well at night only. We can forget about naps. She sleeps in my arms, in her swing, or in her car seat/stroller. And she's wide awake if she's moved at all during her naps.
  • Try swaddling with arms out. My son slept very sound in his rock in play but would wake often in the crib. He likes his arms above his head also or sucking his thumb so I leave his arms out. Since then I've been putting him on his stomach not swaddled and he sleeps all night unless his paci falls out but he is starting to suck his thumb.
  • I don't feel like reading all the replies but I left DD2 in the RNP until she was almost sitting at close to 6 months. She had reflux and I didn't care.

Dd3 sleeps great in it and I have no plans to transition her out. At least not until we get trough two upcoming trips. Packing the RNP is way easier than the PNP!

  • My LO loves the Love to Dream swaddle! Her arms can be up and she can access them if she needs to. My LO has been sleeping in her crib since she was 4 weeks, but I also never had her sleep in our room, she has been in her room since we brought her home from the hospital. She loves her white noise machine and we put her in the crib swaddled drowsy but awake and she sleeps fine. If they're used to a RnP then the transition might be harder because they're going from an incline snugly positon to flat on their backs with a lot of space, which is why swaddling helps that. I would transition now before they start making sleep connections (16 weeks) otherwise they're going to associate the RnP with sleep not the crib.
  • Popping in from the June board. Two things I found that worked for my LO. 1) I practiced putting him in the crib for naps during the day. I would always be nearby if he fussed. (I'd clean the bathroom or something). That way he knew I wasn't far - much like at night.
    2) I figured out my son loves the vibration of the rock n play do I got him a vibrating mattress pad by munchkin. It's amazing!!
    Oh wait there's a third!
    3) my LO loves his mobile. We put it on Nd he is mesmerized by it and the heartbeat noise or even the lullaby tunes knock him out cold.
    Last one!
    4) halo sleep sack swaddle. He kept waking himself up with the startle reflex.
