3rd Trimester

Cramping 32 weeks, most likely due to dehydration

So I had a rough weekend. Toddler was sick, dog was sick, and hubby was out of town.

Sunday night I started to have random cramping. This lasted on and off until this morning, which it woke me up. I already had my appt scheduled for today so I went in and told my Dr what was going on.

She did a full exam. Cervix high and closed, great. Did two urine tests birth came up high on protein but no white blood cells so no infection. She did a cervical culture to test for probability of preterm labor, and get test results tomorrow. If positive, bed rest. :-/ if negative, then my Dr suspects it all had to do with me being dehydrated. So today I had to drink a ton more water and rest up.

Anytome else have this happen from being dehydrated?

  • I had the stomach flu at 32 weeks. I couldn't keep anything down not even water. I started having cramping then contractions. I ended up taking myself to the hospital just to check everything out. I was dehydrated and having contractions. It only lasted a few hours but I ended but dilating 1 cm and had to be kept on fluids overnight.

  • I have had awful cramping entire pregnancy. I have been staying hydrated but I am working full time on my feet on concrete all day and I think that stresses your body more. Hang in there. I had some tell me to drink pickle juice at night before bed but it didn't help. I do point toes toward my shin and that does help the calf cramps. Good luck.

Thanks. And I hope you are feeling better as well.

Good news is my swab came back negative for premature labor today. So that means that I'm good for two weeks and we'll reassess my symptoms at my 34 week exam.

So I'm definitely going to keep up with the water!
  • i was getting bad leg cramps pretty constantly.  I told them I thought I drank a lot of water.  I added some Powerade into my rotation cause of the electrolytes and that seemed to help.  Also got some flavored water to mix it up and started putting fruit into my plain waiter.  I was hoping that some flavor would make me want to drink more.
  • Had horrific cramping a week ago at 32w. Cervix was good, wasn't dilated, everything looked fine. They tested me for bacterial vaginosis which I ended up having. Had to take a round of antibiotics. That was what was causing the cramping. Did they test you for that too?
  • Yes, they tested me for that as well and it came back negative.

I've been drinking a lot more water and the cramping is gone :-)

Jessica, Powerade and flashing water might be a good idea; :-)
  • I hope it helps!  I don't drink tons of Powerade...like half a bottle or so per day.  Some of those sports drinks have tons of sugars and stuff in there, so watch out for that.  The fruit and flavors do work wonders!  I really think water gets soooo boring after a while and we are supposed to drink soooo much of it..  Glad you are feeling better!!
