2nd Trimester

Funneling of the cervix

I'm 20w4d and our ultrasound 4 days ago showed some funneling.

I have a 'level 2' ultrasound in a week to determine the next steps.

I didn't see anything in the forum on this, so sorry if there's already been post!

Kind of nervous, but doc doesn't seem overly concerned about anything yet. All the articles I could find said this is usually found earlier in the pregnancy..?

Has anyone else experienced this/currently experiencing this?

Re: Funneling of the cervix

  • I had funneling with my twins but it was also accompanied by a short cervix.

I was put on bedrest and progesterone suppositories but I believe it was mainly due to my cervix length.

  • @twindling I'm hoping more rest and relaxation after an incredibly busy month will help. I can't help but be nervous, though. Tuesday will determine what we have to do from here.
  • If it gives you anymore peace, funneling can come and go. I was funneling and had a cervix length of 1.7 at 18 weeks with my twins and was still able to keep them in to 36 weeks without a cerclage :)

  • It does very much! All the articles I've been reading say you're basically doomed if you don't catch it between 14-18 weeks. Being almost 21 weeks and not one article saying anything about solutions in that time frame.
  • Good luck! I'm sure your doctor has you in good hands :)
