Are boppy slipcovers really necessary?

And if so how many would you recommend purchasing? Is one enough? Is the actual boppy hard to clean?

Re: Are boppy slipcovers really necessary?

  • Yes I would buy one. Spit up and breast milk gets spilt all over them. I have two boppys from last baby and I'm only keeping the one with the cover.

  • Agreed, definitely good to have. One or two are great so you can put one on while the other is in the wash.
  • I would say it's a must. One is good. You'll be doing laundry often anyway, just one more thing to throw in while you're at it.
  • Definitely needed. I have three extra covers and two boppy pillows. I also will be taking one with me to the hospital.
  • I have two because I was gifted one with DD1. One would work just fine, I liked having the second one, so when it went in the laundry I already had a clean spare.
  • I would have at least 2. There were a handful of times DS would have an accident while feeding, so it was nice to have a fresh cover to put on while the dirty one was being washed.
  • Agree that you definitely need at least one. I have two which just makes it easier to not have to worry about when the laundry happens if you get one dirty. If you don't want to spend the money (I feel like they are pretty pricy for what amounts to a pillow case) you could always throw a blanket or something on it until the cover is clean but I definitely wouldn't use it without something on it.

  • Yes! I only had one slip cover, but your baby will pee or poop or spit up on it and you'll need to wash it then still use the Boppy while the wash is running.
  • With #1 I just threw a receiving blanket over it/under her, but the couple times I had to clean it, it was a pain. I'm using a cover this time. I only got one, but I'm having a shower after baby comes, and plan to buy another if I get gift cards.

  • I'd say definitely a must as well. It was nice to strip it and wash it really well after breast milk, poop, pee, everything all over it
  • To piggyback off this question, would you 2+tm say a standard cover is fine or is it worth investing in something waterproof? I have two boppy covers to swap out as necessary but am I going to be washing the boppy itself a lot, or at least did you?
  • @theglitteredpterodactyl I never needed to wash the boppy itself, just the cover. Hope that helps.

I just wanted to add that I have a love affair with my boppy! I used it for TWO YEARS. I can't wait to bust it out again. It's like a limb extension.
  • I would slipcover my entire house if I could

If money is an issue then you can get by without one. But I do recommend. I've had poopy blowout diapers while nursing, spit up and all sorts of leaks. It's great to just toss the cover in the wash but they're not waterproof so sometimes the whole pillow has to be washed regardless.

Lap pads are what work best. Put one under baby's bottom and one under their head. You can get a pack online or at baby stores. They're little waterproof squares of fabric.

  • I have the original cover that it came with plus three others that were given to me second hand. You definitely don't need that many but I would recommend one additional so that you can use it while the other one is being washed.
  • Are there covers for the loungers?
  • Boppy covers were pretty important for me! Between spit up, breast milk, and poop blow outs they were essential to keeping the ick under control. Two worked perfectly because it's good to have a back up while one is in the wash.
I loved my boppy, I also am pretty tall so I usually slipped another pillow underneath the boppy while was nursing so I did not have to slouch while feeding. Just a side note for anyone interested:)
  • If you registered at target the completion book has buy a boppy get a free cover coupon. I was gifted a boppy, so I took it back to target, got my store credit, picked up the same boppy that I had just returned, picked out a cover and then checked out. Voila a free cover! Then if you buy an extra you've only spent $10 for 2 of them! I could never steal a thing, but I'm all about working the coupon & return systems.

I have a waterproof cover and then a cute one over it. I have never washed the boppy itself.
  • I haven't bought a cover yet because I can't find any cute ones, and don't want to pay 50$ online for one. LOL I guess I'll break down and buy a white one at target. I want neutral looking one, not a baby print. I registered for the naked boppy!
  • Definitely get a cover. I only ever had one cover but maybe if you don't have a washer at home get two so you have a backup until laundry gets done.

  • @rhill30 that's what I was thinking! My pillow was like $30 and the cover was $10!
    Where is there $50 ones?!?
  • Oh man I definitely did not spend $50 on a boppy cover. But for a not-that-babyish style, I actually got two of these. They're super soft and go well with my loosely b&w theme for baby stuff
