  • Wow that nurse sounds like a jerk! I probably would have lost it on her. I swear, since I was about 35 weeks, I'm just not in the mood for bullshit and rude people.

Yes. Unfortunately, I'll most likely have to deal with her again since it's the hospital my OB delivers at. Now I'm feel super uncomfortable about going back there and will keep second guessing myself up until labor.

  • Don't let her discourage you. She is probably just a tired, grouchy nurse. If you ever feel the need to go to L&D, you should! If she does it again, stand your ground. Sometines I think people don't realize they're acting like a jerk and need someone to put them in their place so they back off.

Doliprane is the doctor-approved pain reliever here in France. I'm not quite sure what the active ingredient is. Call your nurse and see what she suggests for a pain reliever (I'm not sure what is considered safe in the States). I'm so glad I called, I had no idea relief was just waiting for me in my own bathroom. I haven't had those pains since. Good luck..I know how much is sucks!
  • I really do promise you will know- one thing to keep in mind is that you could very well be contracting during these uncomfortable periods. But not all contractions equal labor- even ones that are true contractions and not braxton hicks. I had weeks of prodromal labor with #2&3 and its awful. It's so uncomfortable, exhausting and nerve wracking- playing the whole "is this it or is it a false alarm?" For weeks on end really messes with your head, plus if I had followed the 5-1-1 rule, I would have ended up in L&D almost every night.

Here's the thing- these contractions were real, they were doing things in my body (I was 3-4cm by 38 weeks) but it wasn't active or even true early labor. Each time when it WAS the real deal, even with the weeks of contractions I just knew it was time and it was real. The contractions hurt in a different way, nothing I did effected them coming (walking, resting, taking a bath, etc...they still kept coming) and they woke me from a dead sleep. You cannot sleep through real active labor contractions, period. Even on ambien to help me fall asleep the real contractions woke me right up.

I know it's so hard but try not too worry and stress (it's taken me 3 kids to finally now on my 4th genuinely have no concerns about when labor will start haha so I know how hard it is). Try and stay busy and distracted, don't focus on how dilated/effaced you are because it means pretty much nothing until youre in active labor. The baby will come, you won't miss it and it's incredibly rare to not make it to the hospital in time especially as a first time mom. Hang in there!!

So I spoke with my OB about this when I saw her today and she was appalled. She said I did the right thing and that I should go to L&D to get monitored when my contracts speed up and get more painful. I did lie down and drink water and rest for almost an hour before calling the after hours line. In addition, a hospital representative (higher up) called and asked to speak with me about the incident since my OB informed them this happened to me.
